I finally finished the front left axle refresh (mostly) by replacing the flexible brake hose. Is there a way to do this without making a huge mess of the brake fluid?
I will still need to adjust the end float again once the shims I ordered from RN arrive. I had to use three to get it in spec...
I re-installed the swivel ball and housing, along with a new axle/cv, and just now realized I put the stub axle on upside down from how it was before. Does this matter? I expect it doesn’t, and I really do not want to open that tube of hylomar blue back up if I can help it, but will if it’s the...
I had some time to get started on refreshing the front axle in my 110, and this was a case of one step forward, two steps back. While removing the drive flange, one bolt snapped off deep inside the hub, and I can’t see how it is possible to remove the remainder. So now I have a new hub on the...
Just a few small projects today: changed the fuel filter, drained the separator and bled the brakes. Fortunately the rear calipers do seem to be working fine, but I’ll probably replace the calipers and flexible line anyway when I do the rear axles.
I just realized that the PO had stronger rear...
FedEx dropped off my last order from Rovers North, and despite the rain, I made the final connections to the spill rail and lift pump. I bled the lines and she fired right up! It definitely sounds much smoother now with the rebuilt injectors.
I idled it for a bit and saw no obvious leaks...
I replaced the power steering pump and lines; another fairly unpleasant job that took 6-ish hours due to space constraints. At this point I just need the few parts to hook up the lift pump and spill rail, bleed the coolant, and I should be good to go under the hood. It will be good to see how...
I can’t help but I literally encountered this issue yesterday as well. My old tensioner pulley looks nothing like the new replacement one and does not fit correctly. I’m considering replacing the bearing on the old one instead. Please update if you figure this out.
I finished a few jobs and had some small setbacks as well.
Got the vacuum pump installed. This was far easier than removing it.
Got the lift pump installed. This was a truly terrible job. I think in retrospect I should have rotated the crank for this job to alleviate some of the pressure...
Found some more time today to get some work done
Finished installing the other oil cooler line
New glow plugs in
One plug was covered in oil. Not sure if that means anything.
Got two injectors installed before the rain returned.
If it wasn't for the immovable bracket for the air cleaner, changing it out would be a piece of cake. I think if I do end up having to do this again, looking into electric pumps is probably the way to go.
I’m going to try two gaskets and see if that makes a difference. I hope I don’t have to do it again anytime soon as getting to those bolts straight up sucked.
