Those that like a diesel will always justify it just as I prefer petrol. As for proper trucks, ships and busses, these are running BIG diesels that do produce serious HP. The LR diesels are not even close in this class of engines. There is the safety factor of diesel over petrol but it isn't enough to justify going to the dark side.

If they are so great Mark get them up and running :)
Bring the Nigerian Princess to Moab in Sept- or better yet Portsmouth Island in June

The big thing I noticed owning a diesel in Va was that the diesel didn't get bogged down going up hills like Afton Mountain.

Climbed that very Rockfish Gap twice yesterday in the F250 pulling a car trailer on Rt 250-ie a steeper grade than I 64. Accelerated up the mountain passing people pulling a traler with a 90 on it. Don't think an f250 with a gas engine would have been able to do that.
That same truck climbed the Eisenhower on I 70 in Colorado in Sept pulling a 110-same deal, v8 wouldn't accelerate up that 12k ft mother loaded
