U Joint Flushing

Anybody ever remove the zerk and flush out a u joint with brake cleaner or ??? and then re-grease it? I'm trying to find any negatives in doing this instead of swapping out a perfectly good u joint that just has hardened grease clogging it up and preventing it from being properly lubed.

The only negative I see is if there is any break cleaner left in the joint it will break down and resolve the grease you just put in. I have removed zerks and used a drill bit and them some safety wire to clean out dried grease and then regressed the joints.

Brake cleaner doesn't flush grease away very well and I think you would still have a bunch of brake cleaner left in the U-joint.

The only to clean out joints is to pump oil into it, then regrease. Make sure the nipple is clean before greasing. And replace any that leak.

This is how I have done this, as being in a service job doing hundreds every month.
