Steering Column Swap Advice

So I have a 48 Spline steering wheel in my possession, I am looking at my 36 Spline steering column and now that I have taken my dash off (separately I am re-wiring the entire truck) it appears that swapping out the steering column would be a pretty straightforward job.

I am avoiding the TDCI columns as they seem to be a bit different but the 200/300TDI columns appear the same as my early D90.

Anyone attempt this before?

I presume tdci columns are different?

Last question, more straightforward just to pull the shaft or is it one unit?

Column removes as a complete unit, never bothered to pull one apart as the cost of one doesn't justify the hourly $ to pull it apart, if one is loose or binds we get a replacement, the aftermarket now makes these columns, run the part no's through your search engine for current pricing. I have not pulled a tdci one.
Early trucks 83-93 used a 36 spline column
93-97 trucks used a 48 spline NTC9068
the early and later 83-2006 36 spline column supercedes to QMB101620

Going to steal some space here instead of starting a new thread.

Is there any advantage to one column over the other aside from your options for a steering wheel?
