Prop shaft u-joints

chris snell;5160 ... I chose this so I can have a known and extremely common 1310 u-joint in both shafts and carry a spare that will work in either. [/QUOTE said:
I've done the same on the Disco and the front of the 80" ... splines were shot on the 80".

But I just had them made locally at the "Inland Truck" shop.

Just tried 1-0005 in the part search on Autozone.com. Did not compute.

Any ideas on what it might be?

Thanks

Autozone sells duralast, so the part number is 10005dl. Usually this part is a NEAPCO part in the DL box, but check while you're there to make sure it really is a "made in the usa" part. Some of the DL u-joints are made in china.

Reviving this thread as I want to service the shafts on my 91 TDI D90. Anyone have the local shop part number number for the ujoints? Thanks.

While I disagree with most on this I don't use greaseable joints anymore. They are weaker than sealed ones

I use the Spicer 5-1310X

an engineer buddy says the same, with his bearings, sealed allow zero maintenance for 4-5 years in his application, greased may last 10 but require service after every use. I'm not apposed to that, but looking those up they claim as light duty. i'm guessing you haven't had issues, and for clarity they will likely fit a 90?

If you have the standard 1310 joints , yup

Some early trucks had a smaller size .

Not that I've seen ? Early front were 1300 not 1310

Could be wrong but I'm not aware of LR ever using a smaller size than 1300. Series I, II, and IIa used 1300 until 1964 when they switched to 1310 until 1986.

It is strange how they increased U-joint size, decreased it, increased the front propshaft size in the 2000s, and then gave only the Puma 90 rear a massive jump from 1300 to 1350.
