I like the orange one ----- if it were the Discovery.

The DC100 is looking better and better the longer this goes, but it's way too cute-ute. Needs to man-up a bit.

Agreed. McGovern is a self-described "flower arranger" so we can't really be surprised when vehicles designed under his guidance look like they are made for hairdressers.

Exactly - that should have been the D5 and I'd take the red one over an Evoque any day.

This company stinks. People are paying 60kGBP for basically stock trucks from the end of production. Over $100k for nice 23 year old NASs, and heinous amounts for "custom" Defenders. They can't even realize they had the answer in front of their faces. I'd love to be a fly on the wall of the circle jerks that must be their board and design team meetings.

What a gigantic PR turd. They had the entire automotive industry watching on the edge of their seats and all they delivered was a big ol turd. They couldn't even get a YouTube Live Stream to work. THere are 11-year-olds that do that daily. If they are worth anything, heads should've rolled after that terrible event.

They blew their budget or have planned to blow it on other stuff. So they went cheap and did a company picnic styled event.

They are just not ready yet. The Slovakia plant is not close to production. It?ll be awhile still.

Exactly it.

There is no way they are going to release it and not be able to have a firm production/delivery date for the truck very soon after the release. Announcing it, and then having 6 months or a year till production starts would spell certain death to the project before it ever gets off the ground. 6-12 months of everyone criticizing it, instead of getting units on the road and having positive feedback. I'm thinking it won't be an "enthusiast's" Defender, but what they are going to try to do is build a new type of enthusiast.

JLR is a business first. Killing the original Defender was a business decision, I didn't like it, but looking at the economics of it, it was the right business decision.

The new Defender will eventually be released once they can back it up with manufacturing for a profit, and market it to a bigger new segment than the original Defender. Once they roll it out, they want to be able to deliver units right away, have "positive" PR and quash any critics.

It's just business...

Well they’ve ruined the element of surprise for the Defender which is probably a huge marketing fuck-up, Karma for building a luxury-feminist line around an iconic workhorse.

I'm still trying to figure out why we care?

Presuming that "we" all have at least one example of Defender / Ninety / One Ten / etc. already.

Nothing the pastel jacketed wonder produces will be remotely similar in construction / aesthetic anyway.

...stepping off the soap box now...

The fact that you have taken time out of your life to read and post on the subject means that you do, in fact, care. :p

Yeah, but Jeep will replace it.

Evidently, Land Rover doesn't think Jeep Wranglers and GWagens actually exist. They really seem to be denying the fact that vehicles like that can still be built.

I went to the dealership this weekend just to see what literature they had on the 70th gala (they had none) and in the conversation I had, I was told multiple times about how awesome the new vehicles really are, while also being fed an excuse about how the EPA really is at fault for the crappy back end, the bulbous look, the rounded off front end, etc.... No kidding, the salesman was actually trying to pass blame on others to make me accept the new Rover. All the while, I'm thinking about the Jeep and GWagens...

I was more amazed by the JK sales numbers.. How can they not want a piece of that market?

Yep. I said it before that they could have a big chunk of that market if they made the right vehicle. They are too narrow minded to see the opportunity.
