Wiper/Washer Electrics - Please Don't Run Away!

Alright folks - any thoughts or experience you might have about this, I'd appreciate. 1992 200Tdi 110

A little while ago my windshield and rear window washers stopped working, but not exactly entirely. When I press the wash button on the stalk for the windscreen, the wipers wipe for the correct time period, but I get no spray. That seems straightforward - but, here's the weirdness: when I press the wash button for the _rear window_ it also operates the front wipers, but not the rear wash.

Now as far as I can tell those two circuits shouldn't really be related in any way. I've been over the grounds and the fuses, poked around with my multimeter, and I swapped the connectors back and forth between the two washer pumps. I've shaken my fist threateningly at it.

Perhaps the wiper switch on the column is going bad? Any ideas?

Get a copy of the 200TDI era workshop manual with the correct wiring diagram and start tracing power. I'm sure you will run into some previous owner mess. Good luck.

Yeah, should probably make that investment. Though, I will say, so far the Haynes wiring diagram, as primitive as it is, has been shockingly accurate so far, at least on my particular vehicle.

I just replaced both front and rear wash pumps on my 97 SW. They were both bad. They are mounted next to the wiper water tank. Check to see if you are not getting power to them. If so, they are probably bad.
