What have you done to your DEFENDER today?

Broke off the old floor mount bolts behind my middle row seat & removed the seat belt floor plates to wire wheel, clean up & isolate with POR15 the floor & parts. New SS bolts for the ones I twisted off. It's hard to just do little repairs like this... must fight the urge to start taking everything apart that needs it!

Drove mine for the first time in three months. Notice the clutch slipping but a few miles on highway and smooth like butter. So so nice to drive, feels like the first time every time

I installed an X-Engineering door striker today and learned something that is worth passing along. My drivers door never closed right. I would have to sometimes make a 2nd or 3rd attempt to get it to latch shut. I always moved the striker inward thinking it would pull the door in tighter. I discovered today that my logic was 180 degrees off. When I moved the striker outwards it allows the door latch to better grab the striker. My door now closes as tight as my Range Rover door. Let's see if this striker is kinder to my belt loops than the factory striker was.

Those strikers work really well. I find they still grab the odd belt loop, but they are much more forgiving, If you feel it grab as you are getting in, you can just adjust your weight slightly and your loop will easily slide off the striker.

Winch bumper is on. As usual, it wasn't just unbolt old & bolt on new. Busted some more chassis rust, prepped & sealed W/POR15 & sprayed the inside at every angle possible W/CorrosionX.

I got the 90 running finally. It’s been sitting since the week before Thanksgiving after eating it’s serpentine belt. The tensioner had gone bad, so the belt let go. I figured the 10 year old timing belt should be done too (the truck has been sitting for 8 of those years) and the IP had just started leaking from the high pressure side. Unfortunately my o-ring change on the pump turned into a pump-out operation when the least accessible torx bolts started to round out. I got the pump out, changed the big o-ring, reinstalled the IP, got her re-timed, primed, buttoned up, and running. This project has been a disaster of perfectly wrong weather during weekends I’ve had free time. And when I got some free time, something would happen like the pump bolt and I’d be stuck waiting for good weather again. So relieved to not have a deadlined Rover in my driveway.

I fixed all my door cards today. A bunch of clips were missing or broken so I ordered 2 dozen MXC1800 clips with my last parts order. I popped them in where I could and 5 minute epoxy'd the rest in. Easy peasy and now they fit tight as they should.

Are they going to come out easy if you need to service something on the door or are you just planning on replacing them anyway if the trim comes off? What brand did you go with? I have problems getting them to fit in snugly. Sometimes they don’t even catch, they just slide right out. And genuine ones are pricy.

Good grief, ordering the fuel tank hardware from Zack was a hell of a lot easier than bolting it up! I just hate fussing with fuel tanks from under the truck. And this one didn’t even have gas in it.

I just did this job a couple days ago as well. You have to get yourself on your back with your knees above you with a board on them to hold the tank up and then do all the work by hand to get one side mounted. Then I put the jack under it to hold it up to get the other side in.
