Spent the entire week doing work on the buggie. Installed a rear spare tire carrier, had the wheel wells and sill rails galvanized, installed a SDO aluminum 3 gauge panel to replace the mud pod I had and a new set of shoes, BFG AT K02 265/75R16. Took apart the entire front end and painted the inner wings body color, black crackle finish on the radiator mounts and front grille top plate. Finally washed it with dish soap to remove any old wax/grease/dirt and oil, clay bared and hit it with some wax.

Great work! Truck looks really clean and tough

Woah woah woah woah. Is that a rear carrier that doesn't require attachment to the rear door? Does it rest on that silver piece to the left of and below the door? Would this work on my tailgate truck? Where can I get this?

Is this what you a looking for? I have this on my 110 and no connection to door at all. Used an anti-luce fastener to left of door and works perfect. Can provide photos. I ordered this exact part from Rimmer.

I had one of those on my 90. If I hit a bump the anti luce would pop up and the carrier would swing loose. I wasn’t a fan after a few surprises while making a left turn.

I put a padlock on mine through the latch slot below the turn point, makes it impossible to jump out. Also glued foam to both sides of the slide that goes over latch to prevent rattles. I'm proud of it and my rear door is totally weight free.

Looks great, but what's up with the spacer? (at least, it looks like a spacer)

Put a gas strut on the tailagte and there would always be enough pressure on the antiluce that it would never pop up or rattle.

These are "built" new style 24 spline axles with hd shafts and cv's and Great Basin built 4:10 diffs with Trutrac in front and Detroit in the rear. Owner, an enthisuaist whom you guys rub shoulders with @ events like last months Winter Romp, chose these mechanical diffs over air lockers. None of the "old style" 10 spline stuff was retained. Had intended HD flanges all around, dislike the cheesy rubber caps, will swap those out when the 2nd pair arrive.

This truck won't see an alloy.

Wheel/tire are 10 inch wide steel rims with 35 x12.5 Maxis directional mud terrains. Despite wide offset, they still gave the truck a horrible turning radius. The spacers are to regain turning radius in front, in the rear to add stability/track width. The bottom of the rear crossmember is right around 30 inches off the ground. This is a purpose built, very tall truck on soft springs. While I'm building mechanicals, Trey is fitting a full external SD 6 point cage to add some protection.

Having just completed and installed a real dash, and then an alternator, I thought I was done with rover repairs for 2018. I was wrong.....
That distinctive sound of a hole in the muffler is just that a hole in the muffler. Looking at the rest of it, its not far behind. Time or a new catback set up. Thank god my wife long ago gave up on my toy repairs....

Cat back replacement with genuine parts proved a little more difficult than expected....thanks to a missing chassis to exhaust bracket/hanger. Something you just done notice until too late... ZachNorth to the rescue. Generic bits just didn’t look fit for purpose.
As soon as that’s on, I can finish the alignment correctly. It’s probably 95% there.

Busy weekend. I swapped out my dented, leaking oil sump, adjusted the valves and installed a T-Max duel battery system.

Changed Oil, and installed new gasket on rear differential.
I don't think my rear diff is has stock internals, it looks different from stock and the etching on it makes me think it was at least rebuilt.

Also unplugged a very plugged diff breather

Took a little testbook help but it drives like I have finally killed the flat spot/stalling demons. Looking to book a some serious miles this weekend.

New to tread - TD5 Defender 110

hi everyone,

New to tread here. This project like all of yours has been a labor of love with my 4 boys. I learned a lot from friends and I?ve gained the confidence to venture into the mechanical aspects recently. This is very different from my day job so I am loving it. Three of my favorite additions to make the truck suitable for North America have to be the two webastos ( Top C & AirTop ) .... it gets cold up here !! & the Global RoamerDrive.

Cheers,

Crazy Canuck !
