I was sick of the anemic horn, for some reason this vehicle tends to attract negative attention from vehicles that are plugged in... This thing will rattle fillings loose.
I've gotten the finger from a prius before because my tdi puffed black on accelWhat sort of "negative attention from vehicles that are plugged in"?
Pruis and EV are overlapping venn diagrams, but Prius people have their own circle for sure. I had a lady scowl at me in my Perentie while putting through town because I she simply objected to it being camo 🤷♂️I've gotten the finger from a prius before because my tdi puffed black on accel
The only real place that has clearance and places to drill a hole to mount I found was under the fender tops. Take off the plastic access panels to get your hands in there.I have a full horn set (four horns, each a different note) from a 1968 Cadillac that I am trying to figure out where and how to mount, and for exactly the same reason...

Exactly that. Prius drivers especially. I was screamed at a few years ago by an irate EV driver in the grocery store parking lot for "single-handedly destroying the earth". She then yelled at my kids that I was a "piece ofWhat sort of "negative attention from vehicles that are plugged in"?
Yes, I'm looking at that. One of the issues is the mounting holes on the old horns themselves, there's not a lot of flexibility. That plus I have a relay bank for my 100 watt headlights and fog lights in that spot, so...The only real place that has clearance and places to drill a hole to mount I found was under the fender tops. What about bending a piece of sheetmetal to take up the distance between the horn mounts and where you can attach a bolt to the inner wing?Yes, I'm looking at that. I installed the DENALI SoundBomb Split Dual-Tone Air Horn in my (LHD) truck at the radiator front left corner (drivers side)— it fits pretty easily as it isn’t to large yet it punches above its weight and is pretty affordable, currently under $70…Denali sound bombI was sick of the anemic horn, for some reason this vehicle tends to attract negative attention from vehicles that are plugged in... Today is finally "Change the Water Pump Day".
Book is clear you need to pull the Water Pump Pulley, Power Steering Pump Pulley, and Belt Tensioner Pulley.
Book is NOT clear that the Belt Tensioner Pulley is a LEFT hand thread.
And I probably used too much hylomar. Not much I can do about that now. Just glad the three "long bolts" came out easily and did not break. That would have been a bad day for the Home Team.
All this said, does anyone have a "trick" to getting the serpentine belt on? My OLD (and stretched, and probably ready to break at the least opportune time). will go back on. I have two new belts, one from RN, and one I picked up during the previously mentioned trip to the UK to get a brake caliper. I understand there are two different water pump (or is it alternator?) pulleys. I understand I have the larger one, and the guys in the UK have said there are two different belts, and I made sure to purchase the longer one.
I can't get any belt (other than the old one) on. Should I heat the belt? Park the truck facing Solihul? Some other trick?
If you're headed to a local parts store, I found that the belt for a 1993-1995 BMW 530i/540i/740i/740IL is the same but yes, there are 2 lengths (that should correspond to the part number) 1580mm and 1595mmAnd the plot thickens!
I have not one, but two incorrect belts. Zack, I'll send you a PM to explain.
For the second, And this is frustrating: The "label" for the belt says "ERR3287". This should be the 1595mm belt. But the belt itself is labeled 7PK1580. And Therein lies the problem. The belt itself is too short.
To answer the other questions:
Yes, long breaker bar.
Tensioner is pushed to the "stop": easily pushed with an 18 inch bar until it hits a hard stop.
I need to find the actual engine number. Heritage Certificate lists it as 23L31804B. I thought that was after 16L25165, but I guess not. There are different parts for "early" and "late" 300tdis, and mine was built in Aug of 1998, so one would think "late", but clearly it's early.
Time to order a new belt, and make sure the number on the belt actually matches the number on the package.
Ooooh! shiny! 👌🏻
I added the Hella reds as a pair. Muc louder and definitely get the message acrossI was sick of the anemic horn, for some reason this vehicle tends to attract negative attention from vehicles that are plugged in... This thing will rattle fillings loose.
