Welcome to NAS-ROW

I am not going to lie, although I appreciate the second source, its nearly impossible to use NAS-ROW currently as the backlog of technical data on D90 is so vast.

There is always room for a new forum however!

Yeah, I agree, but I personally will search that site anonymously for info but post questions here.. It will take a couple years but that's fine with me.

Oh and it's still broken in various spots over there. Amazing.

NAS-ROW will succeed or fail based on your contributions. Double posting here and there helps them and hurts us. We can't import their knowledge base but we can build it up new here. It's all up to you.

Honestly I am not 100% sold on what the point of cloning an existing forum is. Especially using identical interface. Unless its the lack of adverts we are striving for?

We should look into improving the archaic search functionality on this platform!

I started writing a response to that, but decided to just say this. Having been a member of that other site as long as it has existed, there is a definite need for a new site and a reset in the community attitude. Yes, there is a lot of good info over there, but just as much bad. The site on occasion has reminded me of the Pirate board LR group. Not really interested in helping anyone as much as being a bunch of internet bad asses.

I'll try and remain optimistic but I, and dread to say it, feel like the medium (forum that is) is more to blame than the community.

Suffice to say if you gathered everyone from D90 or Dweb and put them in a parking lot they would likely get along without any attitude or otherwise. Sometimes a clean slate helps but its not going to save a forum from trolls or tirades I'd wager.

That said I am all for it, I can populate NAS-ROW with my upcoming build. Might be a good start to a relevant (at least contemporary) LR resource.

As far as the interface goes, we are using vBulletin, which is the gold standard for Internet forums. It's not so much a copy of DS as it is a tweak of the standard vB theme, which DS, Dweb, EE, ExPo, and Pirate all use. It's so popular because it loads fast (when not ad-infested) and it's comparatively secure and easy to maintain. I'm not a UX expert and would rather stick with the interface that works.

I'm curious what you find wrong with the search function. I've heard this complaint before but never had much of a problem myself. Maybe there's something we can help you with?

Alternatively, you can go to google and type in site:nas-row.com before your search query and search that way.

Oh yes, the platform is bullet-proof. The search function, especially on D90, isn't very intuitive as key words are so common. Imagine what a search of something like 'VDO Gauges' or '300TDI turbo replacement' would return without complex algorithms. Google solution is the best, it would make more sense to embedded it in the site (if you want to make the user experience better)

The problem with embedding Google search on the page is that it adds Google advertising tracking cookies to every page load. It also sends every search that someone makes off to Google, where it's used to build a profile on you.

Third-party tracking cookies are against the NAS-ROW spirit, so we're not going to put Google on the site, though you can always hop over there and use the site:... technique.

I'll keep an eye out for some open-source solutions that can do the same.

For some reason I am not getting email notifications. Any thoughts?

I don't see any bounces to your address, but I also don't see any successful deliveries. Can you review your email notification settings? Looks like you have admin emails enabled but user emails disabled. You are set up to receive email notifications of PMs. You do not have any thread notifications set up.

Dweb works. This site will probably be the same. landrovernet search works. D90 works when you google specific things. I have never gotten the straight up search on that site to return anything except for the normal garbage threads that are 5 grillion pages long and have nothing to do with whatever topic I'm searching. I have gotten it to work if I remember who started the thread or made the post I'm searching for if I happen to know that info, though.

I stopped by D90 tonight and noticed something odd in my ad blocker. The site went from eight blocked ads earlier this week to thirty-seven blocked ads today. 37 blocked ads!!!

I don't even know how their site is usable without an ad blocker:

Hey, would it be possible to add something to auto-resize embedded photos so they don't appear at 100% and stretch the page?
