Webasto Controllers?

I'm planning to add a Webasto 2000STC cabin air heater, and I'm curious what people prefer for a controller.
The standard rheostat is simple and apparently has the added advantage of being needed to re-set the heater for high altitude use if necessary (I live at sea level).

The SmartControllers like this and others seem to be useful people wanting a timer (I don't) and for diagnostic codes.

The tradeoff appears to be simplicity vs easier troubleshooting. Maybe the question is which do you prefer and how often do you find yourself having to troubleshoot? Is there some other way I should be thinking about this?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I have the standard controller on mine, which works just fine. I've been contemplating the thermostat though...

Would like to see a Webasto installation thread with some photos of your installs.

I've been dreaming of a diesel-fired heater for years.

I went with the rheostat.
More interestingly, though, I ordered it through Butler Technik in the UK. I lobbed in a question, got a very quick response and then submitted an order at 9.00 am Eastern time yesterday. Two shipping options: Free, or expedited for about $50. I chose free, and yet the package arrived at my NYC apartment today at 11.40 AM, just over 24 hours later.

My controller install. Can program up to three preset times. 👍

I have the wiring loom to install for my coolant heater. There was a photo floating around that had each wire labeled and now I can't find it. Anyone have that?

What I am looking for is a photo that has all the other wires that connect to power and the pump labeled. I think it's in german.

I have a red and brown wire with rings on them that I believe are for the power. I also have the red and black wire that I don't know where those go. The brown and blue are for the blower IIRC.

Sorry, I don’t have a German one, just this one in English. Maybe you can have it translated to German. Or do what I do and have a German beer and talk in and outrageous accent.

if you have difficulty with the German accent, here is some inspiration, albeit in French.

TY. My friend's wife is German. I'll have her read it to me.
