Im looking for a good used LR3. 2007-2009, black interior, silver, gray or black exterior, SE, V8 model and a west coast vehicle. The ideal truck would be well maintained, low milage and reasonably priced. If you know of one hit me up please.

I'm on the hunt for an LR3/4 for a friend, and I knew they were hard to find from 2007 on, but wow.... probably more rare than a good Defender 110. If you come across anything that looks good, but you pass on, send it my way.

Every now and then I see a really good low milage example come up on the SoCal craigslist. Typically well maintained and never seen more than a few drops of rain. I'm tempted myself... it would be cool to start a thread to post good looking LR3/LR4's with the right options, since I've noticed an increasing amount of Defender owners interested in them.

I'm interested to but it's tough to know with all the drivetrains the LR 3/4 have used to know what to avoid.
My next ride has to be capable of towing my 90.

Every once in a while I search the SoCal CL and have noticed a few there. Its just too far from me to be practical. There is a nice one with lots of Tactical Rover gear listed right now that caught my attention.

Begin the search. They are everywhere...but hard to find.

Just as an FYI, I went 2 hours to get my LR3, my friend went 6 hours, my dad went 4 hours to get his LR4, and one friend went to the other side of the US to get his LR4.

Good trucks are out there, just gotta search, be patient, and be a bit on the picky side.

I picked one up in California from an owner who listed here. Has lots of miles, but the owner was meticulous with maintenance.

My maiden voyage was from Sacramento to Boise. Stopped in Lake Tahoe to hang out with another Land Rover buddy.

Don't be afraid to travel to get the right one. Enjoy the trip back home and have fun!

LR Ft Lauderdale has good trucks from time to time. You will pay for it, though.

We flew down there in '16 to pick up my '07 HSE with 98k miles and a ton of records.

An LR3 or LR4 can tow its twin, so a 90 should be problem-free. The vast majority of NAS LR3's will have the Jag 4.4 V8 and all NAS LR4's up until the end of MY '13 will have the Jag 5.0 V8.

I gave up on my LR3 hunt... Got a crazy deal from a family member on a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 40k miles this weekend... Sad that I will likely never have one now, not sad that I won't have another vehicle with Rover maintenance.

My buddy that own's an indie Rover shop was just telling me recently that he's noticed he has a really good number of customers with 250K+ LR3s but prefers the 4.4L trucks himself over anything else.

Wasn't the 4.4 a BMW engine? The 5.0 is a Ford...

I don't think the LR3 was ever fitted with a BMW engine derivative, believe only the '03-'05 Range Rovers had a BMW derived V8..

And isn't the 5.0 liter a Jaguar design (under the Ford ownership period, but not a carry over Ford design that I am aware of)..

I, of course, could very well be wrong..

Nope. The NAS LR3's with a V8 has the 4.4 Jag engine. The 5.0 in the NAS LR4's is also a Jag engine.

Any known issues with the Jag 5.0 V8? I'm beginning a search for an LR4 and maybe L322 and noticed they share that engine (over certain years).

water pumps are wear items, but cheap.

some have injector issues which must be replaced as a set of 8 for ~900.

most notably, timing chain tensioners and guides are problematic but this is most apparent on 2010 and 2011 engines. some 2012s. supposedly fixed mid 2012 production. the repair is a couple thousand dollars at a reputable shop.

the variable camshaft timing actuators are prone to sludging up and giving faults if the oil changes are neglected.

overall nothing i lose sleep over and i own two 5.0s, as mentioned in the other thread.

There is an issue with timing chain wear. This mainly occurs when the oil isn't changed. So if the service is there, then it should be fine.

LR4s are ssssooooo nice. My dad's LR4 drives, rides, and feels better than my LR3. That said, my LR3 is what we are using for awesome shenanigans so, that.
