Need some help- searched here and d-source, with no luck. I ordered one of the AB trailer wiring harnesses for my 1989 Defender 90, thinking that it would plug right into the factory plug that comes out of the wiring harness in the rear of truck - but to my dismay, the AB kit and the truck have the same female plug. Pictured below is that I have on the truck. Anyone else come across this, and if so, is there a compatible plug? I don't mind adding one to the AB kit, but want to keep from hacking into my factory harness if possible

I could be way off here..I have the same plug on my 91, but the wire colors trace out to be fore aux fuel I think. None of them match the wiring for the stop/turn/parking. I assumed it was a generic harness that fit other models with a rear or aux tank.

You got a wiring diagram ? 89 should not have a plug thats to easy. rear right load bed light cover you will find the bullet connector plugs for the lights. just need to put bullets connectors (male) on the below unit and plug into vehicle wiring 4way bullet sockets. and bobs your uncle.

Thanks all. I think WreckITFrank had it right- that's for something else based on the colors. Fortunately I have one of the other set ups like above in my Series spares bin- will wire it up.

Does nobody sell a wiring kit still for a D90 that doesn't have the factory installed trailer outlet (yet)?

Post #6 or just use diodes (search for post on diodes)

Basic electric knowledge is a requirement

See post#6 go to your local auto parts suppler and get a Reese or Curt kit. Early and most Land Rovers didn't come with factory plug. all the connections are behind the panel on the left side rear load area.

Nice stable of bikes, Ducatis and Laverdas were my rides years ago.
