Towing with LR3

We just pulled the trigger on a travel trailer... plus or minus 4500lbs. I have been all over google about load distributing hitch, the dealer is trying to get us on one and I am seeing both sides of yes they will do fine to no it can damage the LR3. What is the consensus of you guys who tow?

I don’t think you need a weight distribution hitch with an Lr3. I used to tow a RRC with a cage and 37” tires on a car trailer pretty often with a L322. It towed much better thank my suburban.

I would say, no.

Weight distribution hitches are trying to prevent vehicle rear end sag when towing and "pivot" the trailer tongue up to prevent sag and thus add more weight to the front axle of the towing vehicle (or at least that is my interpretation). However LR3 has air suspension (unless you've converted to coils) and fancy programming to assist with towing a trailer.

The weight distribution would probably help but unless you are towing all the time, I don't think it'll matter.

So for a traditional suspension setup, it makes sense. For air suspension, no.

I will say, get an anti-rattle hitch tightener.

Thanks for the information guys. I currently have the old style stock hitch for it, should I bite the bullet and put a Reese or similar hitch. I know it’s rare but towing something that heavy I’ve heard of failures

I put a Curt model on my 05, no issues in seven years. Was cheaper than the LR type. Bit of a bugger if you got full size spare but it goes.
