How old do you think it is OK to run BFG MTs on a Land Rover that is used as a daily, highway, and off-road? Otherwise in fine condition, no signs of wear unusual wear to my untrained eye.

I had an insurance appraiser here in Ontario, Canada tell me 8 years for tires.

His input - regardless of the condition of the tires - if I got into an at-fault accident that was investigated for any reason the age of the tires could be used against me.

That was the input of the grand bureaucracy...

Yeah....

I'm thinking I might swap my MTs over to the 55mph, lighter weight, Series. Then get new for the daily drivers. I just hate paying the cash for tires! LOL!

Had GY MTRs on the Rangie and switched them out for General A/Ts. One of the better decisions I made for it.

How old are they now?

Tire industry says five years. I’ve had BFG’s last longer than that without any signs of dry rot. But wouldn’t do that again.

I’m unsure how old they are, I can’t see a date code. I think they may be at least 7+.

Ran my ye olde BFG KM1s for 11 years. Toward the end they were super hard. While off road, aired down, I slid down a rock with all 4 tires locked up. That is when I knew it was time. They were ok on the road but I did notice reduced braking in the wet. Decided it was time.

If they over 10 years old, I'd be making it a priority to replace. When tires go, its a bad time and usually happens on a road trip.

Check the sidewall for a 4 digit code that is in an oval. See link for visual reference:

I pulled the spare off and flipped it around and found what looks like must be the date code with an icon I or N, 2012. Seems like that must be the date. Here are photos of tires.

My 8.25 XZLs are 2008 date code, rubber is still fresh. Depends on the quality of the tire and how it was stored. My tire place typically wont mount anything past 8 years, but because they were Michelins and still in great shape he was okay with it
