There's no speedo gear in it.
I couldn't get mine out of the old one.
Dave at Ashcroft was able to hook me up.

That's annoying. I would have bought a new one just so I didn't have to deal with it. At $100 an hour it's worth just buying new parts then mucking around with little BS like this.

Did you try popping the rear housing off and hit it from inside?

If mine shows up today, you can use it and just contact dave at Ashcroft to replace with the same stuff. It was like $50 shipped with the DHL option

Or yours may just pop right out, mine was in there pretty good

Give me a call if you want

I wonder if Worldpac would have it. It should be the same for disco, etc

Any tips for a clean removal/replacement of the pilot/spigot bush (brass bush that goes into the end of crankshaft). I only bought 1 and am now hearing it can be a real bitch to install, and often gets damaged in the process.

Same for the rear main seal. I suspect mine is leaking slightly. I have heard people regretting changing it, for that it will leak worse after.

I am going to be assisting with the installation process but am paying the shop their hourly rate to do the job. I am a decent mechanic, and the shop it is getting done at is a great mechanic, however neither of us have done a Defender clutch/tranny etc. Trying to make sure this job gets done in one day. (So I can over see the job, help, and hopefully cut down on labor time)

only words of wisdom to share is that the short r380 uses a unique throw out bearing.
If you purchased from ashcroft I'm sure you have the right part. The standard r380/lt77 throw out bearing will work for a short time until the clutch starts slipping and you have to do the job over again-usually about 1000 miles.

Welp they are in. Everything went relatively smooth. Ran out of time to do the new clutch master cylinder. I will wait for if/when my current fails to replace that.

Yes I used the Ashcroft throw out bearing. I compared it to the clutch kit one. Way shorter.

Unfortunately while buttoning everything up I snapped a lower tranny mount bolt. Couldn't get a mount today but have one coming tomorrow.

I still took it around the block and it felt good. Finally no more banging. The D130 clutch felt nice smooth and quiet.

My LT77 output shaft was laughably bad.

Heading up to shop in morning to finish the tranny mount and button up some of the interior bits.

Thanks for the help guys.

I have a leaky 1.4 LT230 up for grabs if anyone needs. Also some alloy LT77/LT230 shift knobs and LT230 linkage

Does anyone know the difference between gear box mount ANR1808 vs STC434? WorldPac showed inventory for STC434. Some sites I see it cross references between the two, some don't.

I just realized you replaced an LT77 with a stumpy R380. I didn't realize they were interchangeable. What else did you have to change, tunnel, seatbox?

That is amazing news. I was on the fence about how to tackle this mess I have and whether I wanted to be locked into a LT77 for the rest of my life. This solves all the problems, aside from the money part :D
