This is becoming really interesting...

I've been following this, and a few others on YouTube, and this latest update is crazy.

I have to believe they simply got a lemon. The other problems I've seen people have are fairly typical of many new cars, but maybe a little more frustrating since they don't go away. Like the camera not working. Or the computer doing something strange on the UI side. But they always reset themselves... unless it's the New Defender.

I can just picture guys at a dealership all standing around scratching their heads... obviously there's not much experience at the dealership level yet for working on these. After a year or two of them seeing different things that "aren't supposed to happen" the knowledge base will increase.

There's no substitute for lack of experience.

As far a JLRNA goes, they are doing an admirable job communicating with the customer, doing what they can. It 's their opportunity to show they back their product, but I somehow doubt they would be doing the same for Joe Average citizen that doesn't have a well known Youtube channel.

It's amazing to think that they disabled a new vehicle by messing up the winch install. And how does a winch not work out of the box?

Have a feeling even after two years it'll go somethin like this: "Hey Joe,..ever see anything like this? Hell no. Whadda wanna do? I donno". (still scratching heads)

Interesting and sad at the same time. I have been following along since the start of this Defender video series. I was just reading a New Defender review in this months Rovers Magazine and there is a quote by Roger Carthone who use to work for LR saying " I'd have absolutely no hesitation to take a new Defender on an expedition anywhere in the world". The video and this guys quote don't add up, polar opposites. I feed this new Defender thing is just over-complex and the focus was on systems and not reliability. Fun to watch what is going on with it. Maybe in a few years they might turn out to be a bargain in the used car market.

Kind of like needing to plug in their diagnostic computer (for $100+) after you install trailer wiring.
Having to reprogram a truck’s for trailer brakes is actually kinda normal.
This TFL experience is exactly what dealers feared would happen but didn’t want.

Yep, exactly my take. The plethora of “why” is this offered really surprised me when I went on the online build site. There is just so much “jack of all trades master of none” mentally. It is like having a laptop in the 80s. Be very careful putting it in the overhead bin or the hard drive could crash. And this is the off road flag ship for Landie?

Yep. However it doesn’t surprise me on the dealer level. My experience was my brand new ‘95 D90 SW on which I wanted to have a LR winch package installed by the dealer. Took them literally 3 days to finish it. And it wasn’t wired properly. Was very lucky my local service guy noticed it. And that is in 1995 without all the additional electronics now. Just my opinion yet Landie has really lost their way on this one.

These guys are putting the winch in on their own. They also had some issues with their new Defender right out of the dealership.

I watched most of that video, which represents just the prep work to get the winch installed. Insane.

I'm sure in part 2 you'll need to remove the seats, tail lights and interior light bulbs...

I can't even imagine what the cost would be at the dealership level to do a winch install. I wonder what the actual book time is listed at.

Wow just wow. New vehicles are so overly complicated, really makes me appreciate mid to late 90s Hondas and my old Land Rovers.
