Actually one of my favorite watching that I have seen in person is my friend and neighbor’s quartz TAG. He got it from his father when he was young and he has worn in every day since (35 years?). The interesting part is that he is in construction/remodeling/rebuilding old cars (has had rovers, but really a porsche guy primarily). It looks like it has been through WW3. The bezel is almost entirely worn away. I need to get a picture next time I see him.
I have a TAG Heuer Searacer which I find amazing. Unfortunately, it's no longer available. TAG, however does awesome service. I sent it in for a new battery, and they offered to replace the band, the bezel and the hands (they wanted to update the glow in the dark paint) for not a lot of money. The scratches are character, but if your buddy wants to make it look new again, contact TAG.

I think he likes it that way. My view on watches (and rovers) is to preserve more than restore. Mechanicals and structural, replace, but dings/dents/scratches etc. never bothered me. ;)

PS I have a holy trinity of bourbons I drink. Wild Turkey 101, Old Granddad 100 proof bonded, and Elijah Craig. I won’t turn down the “better” ones (OGD 114, WT Rare Bird, EC Barrel). None of them are the very best (that’s Pappy 15 IMHO).

I don’t drink a lot of bourbon, but my go to is Wild Turkey 101. It was regularly $9.99 when we were in LA. I generally use whisky to make cocktails and I’m a fan of Rittenhouse Rye

Regarding watches, I love my Omega Railmaster. It's on the Seamaster case so it has water resistance to 150m. It's a master chronometer that doesn't scream "I'm expensive". Also, you don't have to let a Rolex AD bend you over to buy one. That seems to be the only way to get a stainless Rolex sports watch these days.

I wish I could echo the MK love, but every pair I owned back in the mid-2000s quickly fell apart.

I am a Prana Stretch Zion guy now, pants and shorts. Super durable, more comfortable than my old MKs, and have a useful pocket on the left hip. You can wear them with a belt or without.

I'm surprised - I'm not easy on clothing and the MK's have lasted me a very long while. If I do rip them I'll get a patch sewn in and/or make them into shorts. The most recent pair I've bought are a little on the large size and it's hard to figure out what works as they shrink a bit. But I have a few pair from years ago that fit perfectly and keep holding strong.

I would say I would love to try the Prana's out but there is no way in hell I'm wearing stretch pants. I know they are better and more comfortable but its 100% rotten cotton for me!

I keep coming back to single malts, and for something that is affordable I like Tomatin, and Deanston. I do drink blends, ryes, and bourbons, but they all feel much less important per glass. As if that make any sense. I’m partial to some locals: Burnside and Sisters Distillery.

Circa 1983 my Submariner the last year of the hand painted dials. Rolex definitely has similar traits to a Defender you can dress them up or down and they fit in anywhere. Be it the beach with shorts or the Four Season Hotel with a bow tie.

Also can’t beat a Hinderer knife - super sharp, holds an edge and feels beefy in your hands. Some people cringe when they see me use my knife but it’s a tool to me and use it for everything and probably some things a knife shouldn’t be used for.
