It’s amazing to me that places like this exist, yet all of the suckers just want to drive halfway across the country and camp at a county park for ExPo.

Because places like this take risk to get to. ExPo'rs love to show how to plan for risk, but don't take any. If I'm not mistaken, this is Devils Kitchen which isn't super easy to get to. Definitely not easy to be towed out of ;)

Self identifying with suckers from 1/2 way across and having to stay in a campground. Any suggestions for Moab area for the event in Sept.

My motto is just get out there, be it wild or civilized, both modes have their places. You do it how you can UD, or anyone else for that matter.

It is getting harder and harder to wild camp around Moab where it is an easy drive in to Moab. They are trying to funnel folks into the campgrounds as it is easier to police up after them. It used to be you could just pull off and camp, not so much anymore. Now the DNR/NFS folks have job positions where you ride around on ATV's and are supposed to meet and greet to educate people on where they can camp, while telling them they have to leave. The job description even states that you may wild camp for up to 2 weeks at a time while "on duty". It pays, about nothing.

Sorry I don't have any suggestions. I will ask around my circle of friends and see if they have any recommendations.

Oh an practically everywhere these days is pay to camp and is expensive.

We were there in Oct & found some nice looking camping up on the la sal loop area. Not that convenient to town, but if it's hot we're going uphill ;)
