The Grand Tour Episode 9

Anyone see the latest episode (9 "Berks to the Future") of The Grand Tour on Amazon? Clarkson takes a Discovery 1 and mates it with a MGB body. Pretty funny stuff.

Still not 100% on board with this series. Its just not quite "there" if you know what I mean.

I agree. The first episode was a little cringey. The later episodes while not quite classic Top Gear are getting better. I did enjoy seeing Clarkson ripping around a track with just a seat bolted to a Disco chassis.

I actually think it is starting to click. Ep 4 (I think, the eco-car where Clarkson made a meat truck out of Disco) and the Namibia special were both quite good.

At any rate it is better than Top Gear currently.

I think it's great - just as good as the previous Top Gear - but I do believe the whole car/entertainment/scripted comedy show is on the downslope. Maybe a couple more years.

I think the show is ok, but the running gag of the celebrity guest getting killed wasnt even funny the first time they did it, let alone every subsequent episode.

I feel like the celebrity guest thing, which I agree with you is not funny at all, is like watching a Coen brothers film. At the end you realize the joke is actually on you-and they keep doing it.

Conversation street is at least interesting.

It is lacking the magic of the old Top Gear, but it is worth my one hour per week. I do enjoy it.

I do find myself looking forward to actual new Top Gear, however. I hope they let those three re-invent it a bit. I'll be watching both!

You hate to compare it to Top Gear but I keep doing it. I think it has yet to find itself. The celebrity thing and the "American" are not that good. The skits are a little too predicable. However some of them are pretty funny. I still watch it but hope it gets better.

I think it is finally getting into a groove for the most part. I agree about " The American" ,that guy needs to go. And, the celebrity thing is getting a little thin.

I still think they need to showcase the vehicles from the place where they are visiting. Or, if there are none, they need to showcase some motor event or history from that place. Adding that type of segment would really round out the series.

Yeah driver isn't cool. And he delivers his lines poorly. Better off having guest drivers, but I get that they want the same driver every time to set the times. Takes one variable out.

The American and the Celebrity Brain Crash bits are apparently a middle finger to the BBC and their Lawyers. When Amazon signed the trio for a "travel show" they brought a giant list of can and can't do's. I know one of them was they could not interview or have a celebrity drive a car. So they made the bit about them "coming on" for recognition.

I guess it all goes back to the fact that Clarkson sold his 30% share to the BBC, which a few years later gave them the right to fire him. http://www.thedrum.com/opinion/2015/03/13/life-after-top-gear-road-ahead-jeremy-clarkson-and-bbc

The only episode that has clicked for me was the Namibia special. The rest seems totally scripted.. complete with 'audience laughs'. Oh and the test driver is fucking horrible. That guy makes me cringe to watch.

I like this season so far. I feel like the first season they were still figuring out what worked and what didn't work. They've got it down now.
