Fluids are all fresh, radiator is brand new, did purchase an IR Temp gun and the temp on the Thermostat housing was 199F , adequate temperature drop with the Radiator?

Do not change to the wrong thermostat. These engines should never overheat. It is normal to run them with a brick on the throttle for most of the day... Have you checked the viscous unit? Is the fan shroud in place?

199 isnt overheating- its normal/optimal operating temp. Thermostat housing is the hot coolant leaving the engine-ie usually the hotest point. Lower radiator outlet elbow should be about 50 degrees cooler.

Do you actually have any symptoms of overheating or just a gauge saying its happening ?

Land Rover isnt know for its quality gauges. I'd get it hot and shoot everything with the IR gun and determine if it
actually is hot. 195-205 is pretty much ideal operating temp for your engine.

Following thread. I also have 2.5 NA 110. Drove to beach and back today, 70 miles each way on HWY, close to 90f air temp today. Cruised along I’m guessing at 60-62 (speedo out, I think I need a new cable). My temp gauge goes up similar to Northwind, but no symptoms otherwise. Heat coming out of floor board does get a bit uncomfortable though.

First thing I do is replace my gauges— it is good advice, particularly the temp. VDO vision series is a good one choice— autometer ES series also a good fit.
