Preparing to do my first 300tdi timing belt change.
Does anyone have a tdi crank wrench - like the one Robert Davis used to sell, I could borrow or rent?

I am Jacksonville, NC but would happily pay all to/from shipping for a borrow.

I have one but have never used it. Ive never had to do the job with the radiator in, which is the only reason you really need the tool. When the rad is out you have the clearance ti get in there with an impact gun and that will just zip the crank bolt right off.

I have one as well that I have never used. May find one closer than Oregon though. Let me know if you need it.

I am planning to pull the radiator so I can see clearly what I am doing. So impact should be sufficient-in gear, wheels on ground. Will give it a go.

lock the flywheel with the proper pin tool at TDC in the correct slot. There is a second smaller slot in the flywheel that will actually accept the pin but not very firmly.

@Motorradmark Unrelated to the torque wrench but related to your timing belt change. If you want to borrow the dial gauge kit to measure pump lift to get it dead on let me know. I am happy to post the kit out to you. Just PM me
Thanks. I watched a vid of Mike at BritRest use it. Confess no idea how to use it. But will take you up.

I took a 4” wide piece of aluminum but steel would work too. Take the 4 bolts out of your pulley. Use that to trace a couple bolt holes on flat bar at its end. Cut a hole large enough for tdi crank nose. Bolt bar using a couple bolts through pulley holes you just drilled into end of crank. Any flat chunk of metal at the end of a bar will do. Super easy and cheap. You can take some flat sheet metal at end of pieceof wood and bolt metal to wood. Be creative. I’ll shoot a pic in a few.

simple. Effective. Cheap.

FWIW, I found the reference points inside the timing case to be way more accurate than pinning the flywheel.
I'm VERY surprised by that for a number of reasons.

I bought the crank holding tool for about £30 from a supplier in the UK. Money well spent but with our climate I'd suggest a set of M8 taps to clear the threads first, they rust!
