TDI Christmas

On my 200tdi Disco I swapped a 300tdi Alisport kit before going into my 110. Compared to my OM617 with various turbos the VVT spools right up and it will show boost in neutral where the Holsets (different setups not twin) on the OM617 would take some load. But once the Holsets lit you felt more power kind of like an old Saab 900T. I would like to fuel tune my 200tdi but so far around town I really like the drivability.

The TT setups are not cheap but the Holsets I bought for the OM617 weren?t either. And the Alisport bolts right in with all the parts included where I had to do some fab work to make the Holsets work.

So Bell / Allisport - they are all the same product then? (Made by Turbo Technics). Is that correct?

Yes, same product, the others are just retailing the same turbo and there is some spread in pricing if you follow those sites.

Keep in mind these are tuners sites and their recommendations are based on getting the max out of an engine.

If your turbo is tired and you price a stock replacement, I think the difference in price for one of the VGT's is a no brainer.

Don what kind of fuel economy are you getting ?

Generally, I consider a turbo a wear item - 100k miles is beyond my expectations of service life and I found the AliSport to be a good value.

Excited about this turbo, in your opinion, if I am going to order one, should I also buy the updated inter cooler from allisport? I have a defender 200tdi

I haven?t driven enough to take a measurement - it has been cold and rainy in NJ this winter. I reset the odo on the last full up and half way thru a tank so can calculate it pretty soon tho.

I feel the Alisport IC?s are a bit pricey. I went with one that AdamSanta did a write up on but I still have to install. They look to have the stock top and bottom but wider middle so should fit a stock radiator surround. Napalm has written and linked to FMIC?s that sell for a fair price but will require some work to make fit.

Attached are some comparison fotos with a 200tdi IC I modified slightly to work with the OM617

Truck has been sitting waiting for the diffs from GBR so we can build the axles and do the axle swaps to the discovery 1 axles.

Doug - I just filled up last night - 18.9 MPG. Various driving but mostly around town. I’m running 255’s KM2, 4.1’s and a 1.2 TC. I’m hoping to go to a 35” tire soon and may regear the axles if needed.

I got to drive on the highway for a while last week. The 110 held a steady 70mph in windy conditions. It’s really sweet how the turbo spools so quickly. I feel like some proper adjustment on fueling will make it even better but I’ve been enjoying driving it as is so not in a big rush.

20 psi of boost but makes boost @ much lower rpm.
The ultimate upgrade for a tdi.

Unlike older versions, direct replacement John, no modifications other than the oil feed to the turbo and the return line to the block and the new ones come with it. Sweet kit.
Does this kit come with everything you need to install?
I thought I read somewhere that you need to purchase a couple gaskets

It came with the steel crush gasket that goes between the manifold and turbo as well as new nuts for the manifold studs. We did not remove the manifold from the engine so there are no other gaskets.
