I’m not sure if this is too greasy or not
for a swivel. I wish I was a little bit smarter
Thanks for any input 1626388783811.jpeg

That is a pretty heavy leak and I would bet your inboard brake pads have been coated in grease

Hard for it to be too greasy, as long as it’s not pitted you’re good.

if the wiper seal is bad, you can pull the entire swivel and half shaft out together by removing the bolts at the axle flange Then replace the wiper that way. Brit rest has a video in it.

Thanks for the replies. I had a bad wobble in front end while hitting some bum at highway speed that was scary . Both swivels have this appearance. When I move the wheel while lifted with floor jack no play in wheel.

im surprised you have zero play and a death wobble. id assume a truck with swivels that bad at least would need to be the swivel pins reshimmed when doing the seals . if thats not the case you prob need a bushing job up front somewhere.

If you’re getting death wobble after a bump on the road I’d definitely investigate the pan hard rod bushings. They may look intact at a quick glance, but they’re likely to be deteriorated.

Does anyone know contact information for rover mechanics near Roanoke or Lexington or Columbus. living in southern WV and no local rover shops is difficult.

I don’t know anyone down that way other than Will Tillery, but I don’t think he’s doing service work anymore. If you want to make the trek closer to Richmond, I can do it.

I am not familiar with Charlie Haigh. Roanoke would be closer. Does anyone have contact info on Charlie.

Don't know if you've resolved this or not, but servicing the swivel housing isn't too bad. There are a few good videos on YouTube that can help you. It's just a dirty and tedious job, but definitely do-able for shade-tree mechanics.

Charlie could repair it without issue, as could Jimmy. If you have AAA Premier, that gets you a 200 mile tow.

I’d clean out the breather, clean off the seal, fill it with grease (the Land Rover stuff) and drive it for another decade.
