"The 5.5" speakers don't have much depth to work against the deep drone of the rover's tires and engine noise. You can crank them up... but then they just sound like cranked up 5.5" speakers."

Very accurate description. Having 6 1/2" in the rear is a huge step up.

Nice i like idea of going Bluetooth only and will free up room In the cubby for yaesu install.
Unfortunately, Yaesu FTM-10R is no longer available - it was an awesome combo of a ham radio and AM/FM receiver with a decent stereo output, with Bluetooth available as an add-on.

With so many AM/FM radio stations worldwide streaming content, the need for a dedicated head unit is waning.

The Kicker BT unit is another potential candidate. https://kicker.com/power-sports-audio

Personally, I'd rather have something more multi purpose like thttps://www.sony.com/electronics/wireless-speakers-docks/t/wireless-speakers you can move into the truck when you want it, out for campsite etc.

You can get a mini pc with 8gb Ram and .5TB for under $300. These are a little bit larger than a CD case. You can run your engine monitoring, nav, and entertainment from it with open source software. You'll need to put Win10 on it and get an external analog to digital engine sensor (another 300), GPS antenna ($30) and some kind of interface. There are small IP65 touchscreens for like 100.

I used a fusion ma55 in my 64 dart. Made it so I wouldn't have to cut the dash. You only need switched power for it,.no constant batt connection required. Made for boats. I used the optional gimble mount.
