Steering Knuckle Not Rotating

I’m at the point in my re-sealing of the swivel ball housing that I have everything back together… swivel ball, steering knuckle, and stub axles are all resealed and torqued appropriately. However, now that it has come time to turn the steering knuckle so that I can add one-shot grease, the steering knuckle is barely moving one way or another; thus, I cannot get one-shot grease into the fill-hole on the steering knuckle.

What is going on here and what can I do to correct this issue? Is there an issue with the cv and half shafts not being seated correctly, or is this normal? Everything fit together fine and the half shafts appeared to lock into place in the differential correctly, so I’m at a loss for guesses.

Thanks : )

ignoring the many gotcha's with swivels, the big question would be, did you set the top pin preload correctly?

Finally got it sorted out… It is, in fact, possible to push the CV/Half-Shafts too far into the axle housing and differential by about 1/4in. I removed the stub axles (again), pulled out the CVs with half-shafts (again), then placed the stub axle onto the CV before re-inserting the CV/Half-shaft into the axle housing and differential. This way, the CV/Half-Shaft will not be pushed into the axle housing and differential too far. The result is that the steering knuckles now move freely from one side to the other.

Learn something every day : )
