Spy Shot Of Defender? Dec. 1

I'll consider one. It would be a company car daily driver. I do not need anything large but definitely do not want something too small either. I was just in the back seat of a 4-door wrangler and with having 3 kids and a dog I'm not sure something like that will work. #2 on the waiting list and that is almost 3 years ago. My current RRS will be 2 years old with less than 30k on the clock so who knows. If I didn't already have a real Defender I am not sure if I would buy a 2020 truck.

I am waiting till I actually see it. Camouflaged trucks do not really tell the overall look to me.

The new Defender is not going to be a replacement for our Defenders (unless you bought a rebuilt Defender and expected it to be a G Wagen). I think it will just be a somewhat cool looking modern daily driver that you can drive in the snow and on the beach with no problem. I'm sure people will modify them in the same way people do with LR3's, but it won't be what most of us want it to be, which is a 90's NAS Defender.

Has to be the only explanation. 150K+ Wrangler sales in the US for the past 5 years. They have been missing out. I think their target is 100K Defenders worldwide per year.

Final year of the Defender was 20K. This obviously isn?t targeting previous Defender buyers. It?s going to be mass marketed. The trouble is they need the US to be successful. We Americans buy cars way to frequently and are necessary for those sales targets. The US bought 17.5MM vs UK, Germany, & France at 8.5MM. I honestly think they?re going to bring this in with too high a price tag for success in the US and too late in the game. People are still buying SUVs, trucks, and crossovers, but they?re coming in unestablished after years of Tacoma?s, 4Runners, FJs, Jeeps, and a years of the new small pickup wave.

When it comes down to it, it?s going to be hard for me to buy a new Defender that I?m only mildly excited about for $55k when a 2500 or 3500 series 4x4 quad cab pickup that I always cringe at the price tag of costs the same.

I?m not usually one to say I know I could do better than company X?s executive, but I 100% know I could do light years better than the choads at JLR. I hope you choads are reading this.

Also can anybody tell me how to stop the apostrophes from turning to question marks? I just switched to an iPhone from Samsung and the google isn?t helping me solve this one.

I’m not so sure. I sometimes think I’m the last person on earth who actually pays cash for cars. I don’t think the majority of people in the market for anything like this care one bit about the bottom line cost, they only care about the monthly payment, and only when it bumps right up against their top monthly payment budget. And I think the average car buyer is included in this generalization these days. It never ceases to amaze me how many vehicles I see parked out in front of homes that are half the value of the two or five vehicles they have. There is one place on the way to work that is about 600 sq ft, and not nice at all, but they have a Maserati, a Bentley, and a Range Rover, all no more than five to six years old. If the vehicle is what the masses want to roll with the right crowd, people will buy it regardless of the MSRP. They literally don’t understand that the bank owns it, not them.

IMO, they are going to try to make it an "affordable" G Wagen. $800/mo lease.

That is outrageous to expect 100K sales annually in my opinion. Their only vehicle hitting over 100K globally is the Evoque. I think that is primarily based on the lack of luxury spec SUVs.

Wrangler sales in Europe are around 3K-6K per year. Discovery sales are 12K in Europe post 2010. Europe does not want an off-road vehicle and they do not want big SUVs. UK numbers are similar. US are not.

They will never touch 100K per year at $800/mo.

This vehicle is not really an off-road vehicle. It is not a luxury SUV. If it is, Land Rover is most definitely doomed because it is the exact same thing as every other vehicle in their lineup.

Too late to edit my last post. https://carbuzz.com/news/jeep-wrangler-will-outsell-25-entire-brands-all-by-itself-in-2018

Land Rover has been losing out on the US market. They needed to make the Defender a direct competitor for the Wrangler. They are just like the wealthy restaurant owners in small towns I have lived in in the Deep South. More concerned with telling people they own a restaurant than having it open at times when the majority of the town was able to get a meal to earn them a real profit.

Jeep out selling 25 other brands combined.... but there's no room in the market for another utilitarian off-roader.... yeah, sure, tell that to your high school economics teacher.

It should absolutely have the hood (bonnet) inset within fenders (wings) if its going to be called a Defender.

Nothing new in the way of spy shots... but I thought this was one of the more informative articles out there.

Oddly enough they say the Defender is never going to be JLR’s biggest seller. But JLR has stated they need to sell something like 150k of these to make it profitable if I remember correctly. Their last years sales were less than 600k total. This thing is going to have to be One of their biggest sellers to get there. Bigger than the Disco Sport.

Yeah, this is one of the things I was pointing out about it as well. I think it will have some version of the bonnet/wings. But it also needs alpine windows, and the rear portal windows. ....well... er.... solid axles and....

Anyway, I have a feeling I'm going to like it, but as a Discovery, not a Defender.

Once again, JLR corporate basically committing suicide by 1000 self inflicted cuts......

I think I’d have a hard time keeping Agnew on the payroll if he were being this much of a jerk as my representative. So many better ways to have gone about this.
