And they just moved head quarters also. The probably have more room to keep in in doors also.

I was bummed I didn't get to check out the new facility before I moved. I was in one of the last few classes they had in Mahwah (not sure if the new place is actually Mahwah, but its very close). I drove past it and it looked nice on the outside.

I started this thread more than a year ago, and the thing won’t be coming out till 2020. The DC-100 came out in 2011. The Defender was cancelled in 2016. It took less time to conceive, design, operate, and then cancel production of the YF-12 and SR-71.

And once again, someone is blaming the shape of it on crash safety and EPA standards, completely ignoring the existence of Jeep and G-wagen. This is exactly the talking point I got from the dealer about the current Discovery.

In the end, it had better be the most reliable, best off/on road vehicle ever built. But it will be too nice to go get dirty anyway.

NHTSA and EPA standards are one part of the worldwide safety and emissions jigsaw that manufactures must meet.
This photo is interesting. You can see the twin sunroofs, camouflage edges reveal the less than sharp edged bonnet/hood lines, the LR4 type rear window and Alpines....
Presumably a top end model given the dual sunroofs

These new photos you can actually tell which panels are fake and concealing body lines. It still has potential but based on Gerry McGovern’s track record I’m going to keep assuming underneath are lines that are too curved... exactly what I hate.

I'm wondering how my photoshoped version of the roof line will match the reality. I also think these photos confirm that it will have a bonnet/wing type set up. I don't see the alpine windows....? And the rolled top of the doors is going to be there, I just don't know that it will look any good. The reason the current Defender/Series vehicles have those is for hip-room, not as a styling cue. The bottoms of the doors give it away as what should have been the new Discovery. Oh well. I still have to convince my wife she wants one, so I'm still hoping!

Don't get me wrong, I do actually like the vehicle, I just think they are actually deleting the Defender from the line, and shifting the model line names all down one space. The Defender becomes the LR4, the Discovery becomes what actually should have been the new Freelander. There really is not new Defender.

I may be wrong, but it looks to me like you might need to actually modify the vehicle in order to put some normal sized wheels and tires on it. The whole thing just looks way too low-slung to me. Way.... toooo.... loooow... Like.... a Ford Flex with good departure angles....

I feel like we should be captioning this picture....

You can zoom in on the uphill shot and see the line that comes out from the windscreen. I think that’s the hood similar to the Defender style. The fender line under the fake hood camouflage covering gives you an idea of what the lines under the door will look like. The curve on the roof to me looks like it’s a panoramic type glass roof and you can imagine how it’s sloping down to the door line under the fake top edges. The part I can’t figure out is the back quarter and window. The fender arches look pretty huge. I’m concerned it’ll have that same line as a Kia Soul. My biggest concern are the Hot Wheels rims. What is the obsession with low profile tires and big rims?

Yep, those wheels and tires are what I'm on about. Are you going to have to get an aftermarket hub and brake disc set up in order to downsize to 16... or even 18 inch wheels?

And the four corners of the vehicle bug me.

A 2020 debut in the US will coincide with the new Wrangler pickup getting the supposed Diesel engine option. This thing is going to get wrecked by its timing if it is as lackluster as most are expecting.

I hope it has the TDV6 and not the Ingenium 2.0L diesel. The TDV6 is super quiet (quieter than the petrol V6/V8) and has a lot of power. The 2.0 is noisy and slow.

Everybody setting their expectations low like something really insulting is likely to happen. Smart to prepare for the worst possible outcome, because it rarely turns out to be the worst that was expected. If the new Defender has even a few of the old Defender traits to make it recognizable & it's capable off road, it will be a win.
I know it's expected to disappoint, but no one really WANTS it to suck & fail... right?

She's one of the few people at JLRNA that actually owns a Land Rover. That is her Series in the background if I remember correctly.

There is hope!

I'm hoping that when they pull the mask off, the new Defender is cool enough that my wife will want one as a replacement for her Mercedes in the next year or two. We bought used from the dealer before, and it wasn't so bad.

Am I the only one that is bothered by the driver position in all these photos? And the interior window trim vs. the exterior -- Like the visibility won't be as good as the exterior suggests.
