Soft Brake Pedal

1998 Disco I, brake pedal has always been a bit soft, but suddenly feels worse. Still grabs, but a quick full pump or two is needed to get feedback. It seems to hold pressure if you keep your foot on it.

Notice that there is a bit of leakage around, and below the master.

What else to look for? Would a small leak at the master cause this?

Significant shrinkage.......... of the master cylinder O rings . It's the shrinking seal season as temperatures fall.

OK, I just drove it, and it is now worse. Really is not compressing at all, just very soft all the way down almost to floor even with pumping.

New master needed? Recommendations for brand?

That's what I have pulled up. Pretty sure it is correct.

Not sure, but it seems like the soft pedal may be from loose wheel bearings. But this failed pedal,....? Since there is leakage, does that point more to master? I won't have the time to have a close look at this till later next week, so just guessing.

I ordered STC1284, and it came in a TRW box that was way too big for it. And it doesn't have a reservoir attached....? I have been trying to get around to calling LRDirect to check on whether this is correct, but I haven't had the time. Is it possible to swap reservoirs from the old one to the new one if it is not leaking, or do I need to buy a separate reservoir? How do I even detach the old one?

Problem is, although I ordered the most expensive one they have, it looks like this is t supposed to have a reservoir..... I don’t know how to tell the difference between one that does and doesn’t before I place the order, so maybe it’s my fault.

I'm not sure what to make of it, since there is no description on the page I bought it from that says this does not have the reservoir, but there are a few pics that show up with no reservoir when I use any one of the three PNs for a Google image search.

Yep, give them a call and explain in person the situation. Would expect some resolution from a vendor.

OK, Looks like SB1010S is the right model number. I'm going to call in the morning, and probably order a set for each of my Rovers.
