Side Steps...Tube or Traditional?

Well, somehow we're in our mid sixties, and someone thinks she needs a step to help entry & exit. So, as above, who has thoughts on the long tube style steps vs. the old-timey small fold down step? Oh, 97 NAS SW. Thanks.

Tubes can be slippery when wet and you old timers don’t want to break a hip. Flip down steps are small and hard to see when you loose your vision.😉
Honestly I like real tube sliders with non skid tape on the top. That would be my choice. Stylish and functional.

I have square sliders with 3M grip tape on mine, which I use as a step, but traditional steps look the best IMO and have a wide platform. I vote traditional.

Sliders are no lower than sills, so don't aid access.
Solid running boards help keep some road muck off sides of truck, and act as side bumpers to a degree.
Old school folding steps do the job.
Lifts, upsized tires don't help.

Thanks erover, we looked at those & she wasn't moved. The 90 is "her car" & I think she's leaning toward the small foldung step. Of course reserving the right to change her mind ;)

We had the foldable steps on the 109 SW. The steps had a nice rubber top. Very sturdy and nonslip.

Thanks! I'll phone some of the usual suspects today and see what's lying about.
In the back of mind pretty sure ECR did something similar on a Defender. Possibly send an email to Mike.
The rubber part was held in place with nuts / bolts which I changed out to SS. RN actually had replacement ones yet that was a “few” years ago.
Good luck on your search.

Email in to Z.G. ...sounds like he's out for a day or two. I'll update this when I hear from him.

AB have what look like the "Pro Line" type too.

Thanks

Yes, thanks. Traded email with ZG today and have some on the way.

Of course "genuine" are currently unavailable so we'll give the look alike step cousin version a try ;)

Who knows, if she doesn't like them these may end up on the 109 anyway.

Great to hear! Figures yet the basic hardware is probably good. As mentioned I changed out some stuff to improve the step on the original anyway.

My wife used the step every time getting in the 109. Cool thing was then flipping it up. On the 109 there was a rubber stop. Hopefully something like that is still available or maybe it doesn’t need one.

In any case good luck!
