Who here has a really sweet shop/garage for working on Rovers? Would love to see some pics and get some ideas. Especially interested in nice floor finishes, bright lighting, storage, etc.

We just had LED lighting put in at the shop and the difference is incredible. I’ll take a pic tomorrow.

I’m a huge fan of white epoxy floors, it definitely brightens the whole shop and makes a pretty rough shop look halfway decent.

I have done 2 defenders for myself, a defender for a former friend and now a 61 Beetle in my single car garage. I added a split unit A/C last year which I can't believe I lived without for this long. I replaces the fluorescent tubes with LED tubes and they have been awesome. If I didn't weld in my garage I would have done the floors in white epoxy. I do have just about every tool on wheels which makes reconfiguring things super easy. The 110v electrical is on its own 20a circuit. Also my compressor air lines are hard copper. NEVER, EVER use PVC for compressed air lines.
I wish I had more space but you have got to work with what you have and this is what I have.

I have a very understanding wife. I have a detached 3 car, 2 story workshop/garage. 3 bays plus workshop area on the ground floor, shop equipment and part storage upstairs. I have installed a 2 post lift in the center bay since I took these photos. Second the recommendation on the epoxy floor. It makes it easier to sweep and clean up spills. One recommendation, DO NOT get the little flecks for the paint. They might as well be little bolt, nut, and washer pictures - makes it very hard to find dropped parts.

We had a detached shop / garage built last year. Basically wanted to build a box with high ceilings and open floor plan. Ceilings are 16’ at high side and slope to 14 at the rear.

Everything is on wheels and can be moved around based on what I’m doing.

Had the floors troweled smooth then added a concrete densifier and semi gloss sealer that acts as a sacrificial coating that I reapply every few months. Really eliminates the dusting associated with concrete and can weld right on the floor and not damage any floor coatings.

LED high bay lights, 200 amp service, and Mitsubishi mini split. Climate controlled and kept at 73 degrees year round and so far my highest utility bill has been $33.00.

4 post lift so it could double as storage but with taller jack stands it’s been really versatile. Can store vehicles, work on cars, and unload heavy stuff from my truck easily.

My first land rover garage was a tent in a gravel parking place.. I rebuilt and painted the chassis and bulkhead in that cold little refugee tent. Character building is what I think it was called..

The Second workshop is a little space in a larger machine shop with some crudely constructed walls, florescent lights along the top and it has air lines plumbed in. I cleaned the concrete floor and just used a floor paint, its not as good as epoxy but its more than ok so long as I'm not hammering directly on it or dragging things across it. Leaking brake fluid obviously causes issues.

I can fit the 90 and the 110 in this little workshop.

For storage I will get some industrial racking/ shelving. Currently the 90 is completely dissasembled and all the parts are just stuffed along the walls using the old and new chassis and bulkheads as shelving.

I have a lot of pics of race shops, garages and car build bays if thats also something you want to see, but as this is rover specific, I thought lets keep it on point.

This is every Land Rover tech video on Youtube. Love it.

Me and some buddies tore my 110 down out in the PNW winter rain under a pop-up awning outside the mini-storage unit that held Defenders Northwest back in the day.

But, I digress. Back to the, uhhhhh, garage porn.

In that case I am not showing my garage (no finish on the floor, no lights, stuff piled everywhere and on shelves etc.). I usually work on the gravel driveway. Good practice for roadside and offroad repairs. :)

I have been doing work in the other garage (which has lights and power), I will say the best thing I did was build a 3ft x 6ft workbench. My snowblower fits nicely under it

For lights, these are the cat's meow. I installed them in the garage and the outside shed....

They have little connectors, so you can connect them all together with out a gap between each one.

Now this is what I'm interested in seeing. I want my garage to look like a paint booth. I had this back in Kansas and it was awesome. I could work in the dark of night.

Ha, I definitely feel broke with the price of wood doubling.. I'm in the same boat as CDN38 with regard to light, floor, power needs and interested to see what others have done here too. I'm building a 3 stall drive thru with 2200 sq. ft. total space.

I had a little hiccup back in February when I fell 14ft from the scaffolding setting the I-beams but mostly back on track and making progress with the project again. We've just trenched for sewer, water and electricity to the main house and now ready to set the radiant and pour the floor next.
