Shipping large items freom UK

I have a friend that is looking at purchasing a fiberglass kit for a racecar from the UK. I've also tossed around the idea of buying a Richards chassis given the nice conversion to GBP. The dilemma always comes back to shipping. I tried to get some quotes using an online calculator but they come back in the 10's of thousands. The fiberglass kit has similar dimension to the Chassis, but most likely weighs less.

Has anyone shipped something this large before?

Forget the calculators, call the shipping companies. For something as big as a chassis but not driving on its own, you need a container. So what you need to do is price out a container from the UK to whatever port you're going to pick it up in. You have to load and unload the container at both ends. If you have someone in the UK to do this, great, but if you don't, you're going to need to pay someone to do it. That's when it starts to become really expensive.

You might also want to call some freight forwarders in the UK, they'll crate your items and combine with other shipments to get the costs down.

Thanks for the replys I'll pass on the info.

Sorry no, try Yellow Pages & look in Nottingham. Company I worked for when we lived in the UK used one from Nottingham... Don't remember their name though.

Have an incoming shipment from SP4x4 en route from U.K. This time it's only small stuff but these are the guys that they use. https://www.transglobalexpress.co.uk/
It's basically a price comparison site.
For body panels, bulkhead, DHL has been best choice. This latest from them is UPS.

Guys, try Dave, at MD Couriers, call +44 7803 198838 or email md.couriers@virgin.net I use this chap and he is very competitive. Feel free to say Julian @ Globallandrovers recommended him.

I know Scott uses him for his Canadian parts.
