Shipping help

Good morning. I have purchased a 110 in South Carolina and I’m trying to get it to Colorado. I’ve engaged a shipping broker that was recommended on this board. The order has been out for 4 weeks now and no one is picking it up. We have even raised the price a couple of times. Any suggestions? I need to get this thing moved, but don’t know of any other options. Thanks!

I’d really like to fly out and drive back. It’s 1700+ miles in a truck that seams to be mechanically sound but that I have no personal experience with. What are the odds I make it home on schedule? Feels like a gamble. I’m not familiar with uship, I’ll check it out.

I would say go for it. Have a shop check it out if you’re worried.
Totally agreed. What better way to get to know your Rover? Get it looked at and perform any basic maintenance recommended by the shop. Maybe fly out and review it in person with the shop. I’d make sure that schedule is flexible though.

I have a contact at All Coast Auto that I can give you. He has been super helpful to me and people I have referred to him.

I will be in FL in 3 weeks. At this point I guess I'll let the order stay live and if it doesn't get picked up before my trip I'll go get it myself. I don't think I should have any catastrophic issues, but I've been through this several times and you just never know...... Thank you to those that sent messages and ideas. Fingers crossed this truck gets picked up soon.

Thank you for reinforcing my view of shipping brokers as being terrible. And sorry for your plight. One of the best times I have had is driving a 110 across the country (it broke down in Colorado so you should be fine).

Do it...

One of the most epics trips I've done, was a lot shorter than yours, I flew to Albany and drove back the truck to VA. I didn't know sh!t about the truck... just took my chances and drove it back. LOL

Stopping along the I-95 corridor doing RURR. It was awesome.

Just get the AAA Premier and be on your merry way.

To bad The Birmabright Brotherhood is no longer available.

Don’t know where your trip will start in SC, but planning your route ahead of time with all the LR shops and Rover owners listed before you go would make a ton of sense. Especially helpful with your AAA card.

I’m no expert, so don’t take this as advise, but that’s what I’m doing. Just bought a D90 from Ken at Surfside. My plan is to fly down to Florida and drive it to Rochester, NY. I’ll keep you all updated!!
My sister bought a scout from him, great seller

Thanks for the feedback. After tons of research based on everyone’s input, I am very confident I made the right call to work with Ken. He has been awesome.

Get in and go! I did the trip from VA to VT with a '94 NAS several years ago and made it most of the way... clutch was slipping when at operating temp, so stopping every so often to smell the roses was just the trick. I wish I had @rocky advice at the time to get shop contact locations and numbers in my Rolodex... good call, Chris. I bonded with a 964 from PA and a 325 Touring from Newark this way as well. Not quite 1,700 miles, but also not delivered to my doorstep, which made them all more the more endearing.

Yours looks awesome. Enjoy!

Well, I picked my 90 up from Ken at Surfside Monday afternoon. I’m about 22 hours into my 30 hour drive from Ft. Lauderdale to Rochester, NY, and I could not be happier with my decision. I jumped on 95 to get out of Florida before taking backroads the rest of the way. That 200 TDI ran great. I averaged 60-65, or 100-100 km/h since that is what the Speedo reads. I had no issues. Even passed a few cars! No other issues to report so far.

I’m here in Carlisle, PA if you need help.

I did my own trip like this many moons ago. Picked my new-to-me 110 up at the port in Galveston, TX and drove it to Colorado and then on to Tacoma, WA:

Thank you very much for the offer. So far so good, but I’ll keep you in mind if I run into any snags tomorrow on my final leg!
