ROW Shop Recommendation: GA, AL, Tennessee

Hi All,

I have a 300 TDI ROW D90. I wonder if there may be a list of shops that work on ROW Defenders in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. I’ve had difficulty finding mechanics to work on these trucks it seems. There are multiple LR shops in this catchment area, but they are NAS only. Don’t need anything at the moment, but would be nice to know of a place for when get into trouble with some component failure. I can do simple things myself, but would like to have a shop.

I know that Euro Imports in Memphis worked an a ROW 90 that a guy I work with had. Pretty sure it was a 300tdi. He was very pleased with the work. I believe the mechanic/owner is from South Africa and is very familiar with LRs. Memphis is probably a little far and I’m sure there’s something closer, though.

Outside of that, The Shop in Norcross?

Are they really Land Rover mechanics then? Seriously?!
Agree. Lot of ROW hating from shops. They barely want to work on NAS Defender when you talk to them and then once they here ROW, they will say...we don’t work on those and recommend other shops that say the same thing. Trying to learn to do as much as I can myself. A good mechanic is hard to find!

I'm dumbfounded at this. Maybe you need to find a classic tractor shop and have them take a look at it.. they could handle it. Sad there aren't any mechanics left anymore.

Yeah. Was thinking about diesel shops too for turbo and motor issues, tire shop for suspension and tire issues. Sad that can’t find people to work on these trucks. I guess if can’t plug a computer in for diagnosis of problem for part swapping, many are out of comfort zone or it takes to much effort to think.

If it ain’t got an OBD2 port so many shops just don’t know how to diagnose problems.

I had this problem when I first bought my 90. One mechanic who works on other land rovers said he doesn’t have the right info for them and he can’t make any money on parts so it’s not worth his time. It turned out to be a good thing for me. I’ve done everything myself aside from the required state inspections. I’ve learned way more than I knew when I bought it and put money into tools instead of paying a mechanic.

Honestly this is the best way to do it. Buy some tools, use the manuals, use this forum, watch some youtube, look parts up on LRworkshop.. you can do anything on this truck. This thing is a tractor that was designed be be serviced in the field. Anyone can honestly do it, and probable enjoy it.

This is my plan exactly. This site and YouTube among others are incredibly helpful! I've enjoyed fixing a few things on my D90 before and it has given me confidence. The alternator and starter failed within 6 months of one another after I purchased my D90 and I got those both taken care of myself. The electrics are intimidating to me. I have an intermittent starting issue on a 110 that has a new starter and new battery with all the connections tight. That will be my next project to sort out.

Check the ground for the engine or earth strap or whatever they call it. Had a loose one on a 110 once. Same sort of thing.

I had this as well when i first got my "slightly used" 110 awhile back. I used to pop the bonnet and hit the back of the starter with a hammer.. eventually replaced the starter.. checked all the fuses.. relays.. man it was frustrating. In the end I found it was a bum relay that just sometimes worked and sometimes didnt. When I changed it the problem was solved, when I put that specific relay back in the problem came back..
