Rock auto brands for brakes

My lr3 needs pads and rotors. Rock auto has nice prices for the brands of Durago, centric or powerstop.

Any experience with these cheaper options.
Is it a get what you pay for experience ?

in the past and on a pinch, I used advance auto generic pads (the only type they listed for a classic 15 yrs ago). I had to tow a 30 ft enclosed trailer with a rabbit gti (show car) from deep south west Va to Pa. with those pads and during said trip, I experienced lots of brake pedal fade, extreme dust on my wheels, smell of heated friction material and accelerated pad wear. I have driven semis for over 30 yrs so towing with an suv is child's play to me, thus this was and isolated incident. lesson learned, don't use cheap brake parts on your heavy rig (a rover suv is nearly 3 tons empty). your family will thank you.

I think I may have a set of Centric LR3 in my garage brand new that I bought by mistake that I'd sell cheap. If you can wait until Sunday, I'll look.

Do they have ackebono or ferodo?
Those Ferodo pads are definitely junk in my experience. From what I recall, they are the ones that the brake pad wear sensors don’t even fit properly. They are probably the most common aftermarket replacement I have seen at the dealership and are almost always at the dealership for brake noise issues

Interesting. My information must be dated, but ferodo was OEM for older rovers.

I put akebono on the jag and they are excellent.
Zach sold me some Delphi for the LWB, but I have not tried them yet.

I thought that’s what the last set of genuine I got had stamped on them too. That’s why when I bought the last set i bought ferodo because I thought they were the unbranded genuine...have ferodo all around right now. Little bit of brake noise every now and then at stops.

Generally I prefer genuine pads, aftermarket rotors. The delphi pads havent given us any issues thus far, so no complaints thus far.

I did genuine pads on my 322 with aftermarket rotors, and plenty of brake squealing, go figure.

Make sure the rotors you select are rust coated (many aftermarket ones are not), unless you really like rust...

I bought some rears on eBay that were coated and they coated the inside as well. Not good for the parking brake so I ended up just turning them as they still had enough life left. Newtek black knight. So probably stay away from them. The fronts on the other hand have been just fine.

The other brands I see listed are Bosch and Wagner. I want to have a good price but didn’t want to Hafta do a redo

I think Rock Auto has Akebono brake pads. They've been very good with performance and less dust. I did not notice any reduced braking vs. genuine pads but LESS brake dust. Genuine pads work great but lawd they dust.

For discs, the AC Delco has been good so far on two different LR3/4s. I'd go that route.

I've used Centric rotors and pads on several different cars over the years and have been pleased
