There were 2 in Avalon last week while I was there, and @evilfij , @Angus , and I saw one at the cars and coffee some weeks back. They are cool trucks, but what I didn't realize was they are mid-size, like a Colorado, Ranger, etc. Maybe a bit bigger, but not even close to F150, Silverado, Ram, territory. I am still interested in them, but not at that price point for a mid size truck. Gives me a bit of a Honda Ridgeline vibe.

Ive seen a few around town, one of the ugliest vehicles Ive ever seen. As mentioned above it was surprisingly small, I was expecting to be a "full size" type truck.

I can see the Ridgeline vibe, and to me, that’s ok.

I’ve put well over 330k trouble free miles on Honda’s. I didn’t go with the Ridgeline because it’s tow rating is just 5k. I went F150. Lord knows I’ve used the space it has to the max plenty of times.

The Ranger/Taco/Frontier size pick up will continue to get softer more Ridgeline like to attract people downsizing from the half tons or want to change away from the three row SUVs as the kids grow up and leave home.

There are a couple/few in Boulder already. This one was at Neptune Mountaineering while I was there. Talked to the (1.5 week) owner. He loves it so far!

My wife and I were in DC this weekend to see the Cherry Blossoms (good lord was it crowded). But we also saw not one but two Rivian R1S. One in Green the other in Black. They were in traffic and both appeared to have the offroad tires and be sitting very low, but otherwise looked pretty good from the brief view I got (sorry, no photos).

So I guess they (the SUV variants) are finally hitting the streets..

There are a few Rivian Trucks that I see around town. Offroad tires and bolt-on overlanding gear help with the visual presentation, but it still looks to me like a goofy ultramodernized Honda Ridgeline(2nd Gen) or Subaru Baja--or really, a Tesla truck conversion if Elon had not gone with all of the funky angles (and it is definitely a "midsized" truck). Don't really understand the excitement, to be honest.

The new electric Hummer is an entirely different beast. Looks great in person (one advantage of living in Michigan is that I get to see the domestic vehicles early): Full size, massive range (for an electric vehicle, excellent styling, and is actually capable. offroad. If they were available in gas/diesel (or at least did not have an astronomical price tag), I would definitely consider one.

The problem with electric cars personally, other than the obvious range/infrastructure issue, is that in order to be one there is apparently a mandate that their design must scream that they are so. We are not yet at the point where a vehicle can be electric without being obnoxious.

The F-150 Lightning is an exception on this point but, as Tyler Hoovie's videos show, it is not really ready for the big time in terms of driving range, especially while towing/hauling. But overall, I do not disagree.

I see more Rivians than New Defenders. And the SUV version looks pretty good too. But I'd take the pickup.

If the government is (essentially) mandating this as the future, then they should supply one new charging station per EV sold -- no? I don't really understand the jump to EV. Hybrids is where we should be at.

To me the F150 is like the Rivian - fine from 3 angles. The front is disgraced by that ridiculous grill light bar and headlights. The wheels looks like flowers.

It's all about where the money goes, like everything else. Those with the power to mandate are enriching those who have enriched them. Its not actually about the environment..

And I'd take the R1S if I had to drive electric, not a huge fan of the R1T myself..

Where I live, amongst the "environmentally concious" trustifarians (you know the type... those who claim to reduce their carbon footprint in one breath, then jet off to somewhere warm several times a winter), I see a few of each model every day, but still 2:1 T:S

Just got my wife the Q5 hybrid... 26 miles all-electric for her 2.4 mile round-trip commute. The only way to tell it's a hybrid is to look for a second fuel filler flap. "Free" charger, but $1,500.00 electrician install... Audi front-loaded the $7,500.00 tax credit and the dealer discounted a bit as well, so it was easier to accept the final price. Plus, it's quicker than the SQ5 and has the full tow pack, so there's an element of subtlety that I like.
