removing shifter knob advice RRC

Ok guys, can't figure out how to get the knob off the shifter. Need to replace the illumination strip. I already managed to break the nice wood cover of the shifter, previous owner had super glued it together. Wonder if there is a replacement for that as well. Thanks in advance! Ian

lefty loosely while pulling up.

As for the surround it was most likely glued down as the pins broke? some ham fisted buggers around.

I havent done it lately but....

Put in Nuetral.
Pop the top off shifter handle.
Inside is a nut(17mm maybe?)
take off nut
remove small C-clip
That's the gist of it... then the whole thing slides off.

The strip is pretty straight forward once its out of the console.

What Jeff said. There is a little o ring on the shaft as well, think its there as an anti rattle but easily lost if you arent being carefull.

Thanks for all the help, ending up getting it all apart and changing out the illumination strip, that was a little bit of a pain. The shifter kept wanting to pull on the new strip laterally. Ended up relieving the plastic bezel and it all went back together.

I ended up replacing mine with the black plastic version used on earlier Rangies. Blends nicely and was OEM.

Pics- for future reference

also, the large nut is usually loose; needle nose pliers will get it out

Pictures are great! I put my switches in the same spot for locker, now I need to go back in there because I think I put the wrong bulb in there for the shift indicator. my letters are hot to touch, does anybody know the correct bulb?

I don't recall the actual bulb when I replaced mine along with new indicator labels, but I put LEDs in because they won't melt your new labels.

According to workshop manual: 24-volt, 5-watt ‘wedge’ base (capless). Not sure about the 24-volt yet that is what is written. Section 86 Electrical p22 Repair.

used leds from Superbrightleds.com on mine

That was my plan. What'd you use ?

BTW, I replaced the entire center console with an unbroken one.
Also found out why my parking brake quit working...

Damn Charles Atlas. Dont remember man- I think they actually have a bulb look up/search engine based on vehicle. Lower dash was unbroken on that truck I sent you a text about if you need one.

Ha ha
I could tell it was stretching and breaking for a few years. Then it finally snapped.
Decided to put a replacement console in while I had things apart to put in a new brake/cable assembly.
Cleaned off all the broken and chipped wood veneer around the shifter and painted it black.
