I have factory painted wheel arches and want to go back to matt back. any recommendations on if it's best to to repain them black, or remove the paint all together? not sure if the factory painted over the standard black or if it's all together different

I'm not sure how the plastic would hold up to the paint removal process. I would be inclined to prep them using a hand held wire brush or sand paper and then spraying them with black bed liner or black bumper paint.

Suggestions ordered from ok to great.
  1. DA foam pad with 200 to 300 grit
    1. Coat with bumper paint using proper spray technique
    2. Coat with Spray Max 2K Hot Rod Satin Black (WEAR RESPIRATOR)
    3. Coat with SPI Single Stage Black adjusting sheen with activation ratio (WEAR RESPIRATOR
  2. Have a shop take care of it professionally.

Find some used black arches. Or spray paint them with something (bumper paint is probably what I would use but I have not tried to paint flares).

Guess if you go for genuine they are $600 for glossy black.
Honestly I had no idea the pricing had gone up that far..

Yeah, and the aftermarket arches are awful. Nearly unusable.

I don’t care for the finish of the new genuine ones at all. They are smooth and look like they should be painted. I took the original set off of this ‘83 110 I’m building and just had the body shop repaint them for me. They just cleaned them, scuffed them, and sprayed with aerosol trim black paint. They turned out great.
