Remove FTC3283 Gear Lock Solenoid???

'96 D1, 4.0, ZFauto...currently stuck in LO range, presume the gear lock solenoid (FTC3283) is pooched. I've read that the solenoid can simply be removed with no effect to TC operation...is that correct?

Not entirely sure that's how the failure presents itself, but I pulled mine out of the '94 ages ago

Seal up the cover with some RTV and Bob's yer uncle.

Thanks for the confirmation. From what I read the solenoid is supposed to prevent the TC from shifting bewteen HI & LO while at speed, basically locks the TC shifter. When it fails it is apparently in the locked position, can't shift the TC from HI to LO or vica-versa.

Yes. Unbolt the cover. Remove solenoid. Bolt cover back on with some sealant.
