I'm in the market for a new winch. I have really only been looking at a warn zeon winch but red winches look like an interesting option. Anyone running one?
Thoughts?
thank in advance.

besides the massive cost to import a Red or gigglepin they quality is def there. For ease of use/warranty id go with a Warn if you arent doing competitions.

I’ve only seen one Red Winch in person and it was having issues with the clutch release. I want to say it was pneumatic, but can’t remember.

Warn 8274 and Superwinch Husky are the pinnacle of winches in my opinion.

If I were to buy a more standard style winch, I would go for the Superwinch Talon series which I believe is the replacement for the EP series. I had one from high school up until a few years ago. It had corroded enough that a chunk fell off of it. It still worked fine when I sold it

All the new superwinch are chinesium though

Warn M8000 is made in USA.

Ya, an 8274 is the best electric, but it’s also $2000 more than an m8000.

I just need a truck that fits my PTO driven superwinch.

You guys will clutch those pearls like your baby just got slapped, but the Warn 8274 and Superwinch Husky are the front end equivalent of a Salisbury potato plow.

I strongly considered the M8000, but in the end went with the similar ComeUp (the original manufacturer for Superwinch) DV-9 the equivalent of the old EP 9.0. They're similar in size, weight, and form. The M8000 is made in USA while the ComeUp is made in Taiwan, but if the specs are correct, the DV-9 is rated to pull more at lower current draw. Customer support has been great and it has performed well for years now.

Shoot, we need to get back to the point where we hear such eloquence as this backed up by too many beers over a camp fire -- I am just tryng to imagine the friendly reaction banter to this comment after a great day of off roading together! Truly a classic comment!

And, I agree erover82.

I roasted a husky.

Since then I believe that if it does not have a driveshaft, it’s not a real winch.

That being said, I don’t use them for anything where it matters so ….

I had a Warn XD9000i and have run a Superwinch Talon 9.5i on my current 90. The Talon seems faster, espeically winding it up with no load. Unsure if speed really matters -- do you really need to winch anythig in a hurry?

The Red Winches seem to be well built and have good reviews. And, you will have someting not many people have. But, you already have a Defender. As Napalm said, a lot of money to get one here, whihc may or may not be a consideration.
