Recommendations for TSA approved shotgun case / lock

Traveling soon with two shotguns. Looking for recommendations for a hard case to hold two shotguns with associated TSA approved locks. I've been looking at Pelican / Nanuk for no real reason other than they are brand names I know. I'm sure this group will have some great recommendations.

Cheers and Happy New Year to everyone!

I picked up a Plano Pro-Max double case recently (on Craigslist, even!), and I think I read it’s TSA-approved. Two locks you provide, crush proof structures inside, and it fits my Remington 1100 and Marlin 30-30. The 1100 is a bit of a space hog, but it fits. It’s a big box with no wheels, but it’s really built solid, just not watertight like a Pelican.

The Apache boxes at Harbor Freight are really pretty solid as well, though I only have their smaller version.

I have the same case and it’s great. Someone told me to not use tsa locks and use something else. Have your cell phone number marked clearly on it, if they need to get into it after you have had it inspected and checked in they can call you. I’ve never had any issues so far with that advice.

Correct, you do not want/need TSA approved locks when traveling with firearms.

I just went through this procedure over the holiday.

- Declare the unloaded firearm at baggage claim.
- Airline verifies it is unloaded.
- Lock case.
- Wait about 10 min. If TSA has questions, they will call you over.
- Pickup at "special claims" on receiving end with ID and claim check.

All this assumes travel within these United States. Import/Export has additional steps.

Oh, and go with Pelican. For real "low key", put a Gibson (or your favorite) guitar sticker, or something similar on the case...

Negrini cases look super nice, I have been thinking about getting a fly rod case from their sister company Sea Run Cases

Interesting, I didn't realize Sea Run was their sister company. I have been thinking about a Sea Run as well. They look great and very functional.

Or any Peli case for that matter. I have “lost” many Pelican TSA approved locks over the years on trips from Switzerland and Brazil to the USA on my Peli cases. Also from the USA back. Finally just didn’t lock the cases anymore as TSA folks just helped themselves to my locks. Nothing was ever taken as most TSA agents don’t need miscellaneous Rover parts or dog food. 😁
