rearview mirror glue?

I think ECR/Mike posted his favotite glue on that other forum but I'd rather start a discussion here.

I need to glue the small metal mount to my windshield.
I'd like to do it once and be done.

Any recommendations?

ha ha, no worries!

I just used a straight razor blade or carpet knife and gently tapped it under the metal and it popped right off!

Stop by a glass shop for both your issues. I bet they do them both without charge too.

No doubt my local glass guy would do this but....my vehicle is currently not titled/registered and needs to pass inspection.
I could trailer it over to the glass shop but I'd rather just DIY this job!

There are specific glues at auto parts stores. That said, until it warms up there isn't any point trying to glue mine back!

I used a small amount of 2 part epoxy (be sure to sand the suface of the metal base to get the best adhesion) and also mount the mirror as high as possible (to gain the most forward visibility) & still be able to remove it from the base. Also when off roading, I keep a screw driver near by to remove it all together, you'd be surprised how much of your forward view is obscured by the thing.

How high did you mount the base? That sounds like a good idea.
This is going in a ST but I dont think anything interferes...

The mirror fell off the old Disco a year ago. The magic super-glue-ish stuff didn't work. I stopped in at the local windshield shop...the guy said he wouldn't touch it.

The two part epoxy they normally use gets too hot and had cracked Disco/Rangie windscreens in the past.

He suggested plain old contact cement.

Dang if that thing isn't still there :)

Watch where the sun visors fold down. If the mirror is mounted too high the sun visors will hit the mirror. At least on the NAS D90. Not sure what vehicle you have.

I wonder if you could make RRC roof mount work. (That's why I need to remove the windshield mount... not needed)

The base of the metal thing, that sticks to the glass, is 2.75" from the base of the rubber above it.

Use a slower curing epoxy .... creates less heat. Tape the steel button onto the glass & allow 24 hours to cure.

Probably true .... I rarely even tilt mine down so I don't know.
