Project Stella Rose - Cummins R2.8

Not trying to be an ass. You trust that eBay airfilter on this thing ?

I asked because I'm in the same conundrum. Right now I'm just running a cone filter on the end of my turbo on my new motor and it's so ear piercingly loud due to the ultra high boost that I'm going to have to run an air box.
I'm in that same conundrum. Since I have so little debris of any sort on my air filter when running a snorkel, however, I am feeling more confident but I sure would like to have a good filter if I can inside that inline filter...

This is what I'm thinking about using I don't know if it's any better quality than the eBay one. In conjunction with some Pegasus racing flexible intake hose

Edit: @Napalm00 beat me to it, but the one he has is a 4 inch intake and outlet...and the one I linked is 3". So now I have to ask the question... @Napalm00 I am assuming the bigger housing will be able to accept a larger filter, even if we have to use a reducer to bring the outlet to 3"...this is preferable to a smaller element and no reducer?

I've been Eye'n this for the air cleaner...it gets pretty good reviews on Summit.

I'm going to go with the largest element I can fit That's why I linked the big one. I don't have a Cummins 2.8 and my turbo inlet is only 2 in so I have to move down from 4-in to 2-in at the turbo housing. My current air filter is just a massive cone filter that goes from 4 to 2 so it's not really a change for me. I just need to have an enclosed filter because of the intake noise, I think

so far so good. we have updated to solid silicon pipes but kept the air filter assembly.

Is it just the photo angle or is the engine pointing toward the right front? It doesn’t look parallel with the axle housing

The photo definitely makes it look that way. If you look at in person it looks slightly off set. I thought the same thing when we first installed it but the front and back of the engine are centered. I think its something to do with the way the top of the engine looks compared to the engine block.

I like the looks of this one. I might try it out.

someone else had posted this one also...5" filter diameter...already stepped down to 3" in/out.

At this point why don't we all just pull the spec from the latest install manual and find a proper Donaldson or Opti-Air filter that fits in the Defender behind or inside the fender somewhere ? With most of those its easier and you can seal and setup a snorkel I imagine. Not sure how this relates to those who tune the engine but for stock should be fine. https://www.cumminsfiltration.com/optiair

I've been looking at the 800 series--maybe the AH19490 or just the straight through(that is just the housing). They are pretty large and pretty damn expensive. But you can certainly do it. Maybe not in the fender, but you can do it and draw air from the fender...

What I would love to know are the real world restriction numbers of snorkels...

There should be a new thread started for all this discussion. Once i'm at a point after painting where my fenders are back on ill see what space I have available. Could always go Axis route and use the TD5/PUMA air box or just use one of the Cube shaped air boxes from Cummins like the Aussies did.

Besides wasting 3 days on our new Puma hood things are moving along pretty well. Nothing lined up on our new hood we actually had to cut it apart and reinstall all the hardware in the correct location. Definitely not a DIY project. Looks ok now and since I like our bed liner paint so much I decided to do the underside of the hood hoping to add a little protection and weight since the fiberglass is a little light.

Doors are on, front grille on and painted, bed is on and hooked up (wanted to add a dump piston but scraped that idea for now maybe this winter) still need to paint the bed liner.

Sent a few pieces out for powder coating - tailgate hinges and latch, the window roll cage that we extended. Originally the roof piece attached just at the back of the front doors which looks great on a 2 door but looked awkward on our 4 door. Welded up some new 2" pipe with a nipple on the end and presto looks like it should have come.

Finish painting next week, then on to the interior. Most of the wiring is done for the engine and most of the electrical is done. Still need to figure out my air cleaner and snorkel ;-)

Nice work. Was the Puma hood fitted to provide clearance for the engine or mostly for aesthetics? The roll cage looks great too. Are you putting in a interior hoop for the cage behind the back seats?

A little of both. The last install just barely rubs on the hood with the engine cover on. We figured the puma hood would help out. If we had known how much work it would take I don't think we would have done it. Tell the truth we almost scrapped it after wasting 8 hrs the first day trying to fit it.

Not adding the hoop at this time. We may go back and add it later kinda want to get this thing out and on the road!
