Phone Mount Options

Other than the Ram mount, which is an obvious choice, what are the other options you've gone with?

After driving for a while with the Defender and the iPhone 6+, I am sure I need a mount, and I think I want a suction cup to the window. I would be open to other suggestions, but I have plans for what's going on in the center console, I like having it at window height, and I don't want to drill holes in the dash at any spot.

The one alternative I can think of is that on the NAS 110 dash there are three large buttons for the hazards and the defrosts, right in the center, and I will not be using these. I could put a hard point at that spot, and have a phone mount there. But a window suction cup would be much easier.

I use a suction cup version on the windshield. So simple and doesn't require drilling etc. the RAM mount versions are nice as well. I don't like looking down at the dash and nice to have it up where it is visible for navigation etc

Pro clip lists a mount on their UK site. I have not seen the defender version but I do have one in my F150 work truck and it's really nice, rock solid.

Here is what I used with my iPhone 6 with life proof case. It is just a Ram mount I've had for 20+ years with a belt clip fastened to. Has never come out even on the worst trails yet clips in and out super easy with one hand. Unfortunately I now have an iPhone 7+ now and the new belt clips are this stupid magnetic thing which I don't like. So now I have the new Ram mount like Adam posted up but it is not near as easy as my belt clip thingy.

I have this mount and it is perfect in my opinion. No drilling or screws. Work perfectly over hundreds of miles of washboarded roads in Death Valley holding my iPhone+ or my iPad mini.

That is a lot like the thing I had thought to 3D print a while back.

What is the cradle you use for the actual phone? Does that come with the dash clip thingy?

X2 on proclip, two of my cards had them. Both from the pre BT era radios. One was totalled in December. The other, well its the kids, so I guess I should remove it.

Actually... I don't think that will work on my dash. It is NAS 110 style....

Did you have to order from UK?

Here's a closeup of how it tucks in under the bottom edge. I would think it would just snap right in displacing the NAS dash piece inward slightly.

I ordered off the US page. http://www.proclipusa.com Just set the shipping dropdown to UK while you search and add to the cart. Then swap it back over to the US shipping and check out.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure that won't work. The facia plastic is not only cheap and brittle, but it is sort of held in place by being tight up behind the top and bottom dash. I'm afraid this would tweak it, possibly crack it, but almost certainly cause it to sort of pop out in a strange way at the spot where the clip slips in behind it.

I've thought about it. And I have done some 3D printing, but I have no access to materials that can withstand heat in the sun. I like the first design, but I think the center is a bit far away from the driving position.

However! When I looked t those links, I did realize that the center ash tray could at least be used as a mounting point for a drill-in option without compromising the dash facia. I'll have to think more about this.

I use the Ram mounts with the surface mounting plate. I drilled and tapped a piece of aluminum and made a backing plate then screwed it through the vent holes. It's pretty sturdy and no drilling required.

That looks pretty cool, although my suction cup mount held up to 50+ miles of washboard in Death Valley.
