Well, I haven't looked into this thing, I don't know if it's just a filter needing replacement/cleaning, or if it's a true catch device. That's part of what I'm asking. A secondary question would be whether or not to get an aftermarket version to improve on what LR did.

The factory oil separator naturally drains into the sump, do you have some weird inline device? It sounds aftermarket

No aftermarket. Just wondering if I need to clean it then. Check for proper operation, etc...

If you do long runs you'll be fine. If you're like my wife (turbo gasser) and drives three miles each way to the station/store etc.....as we found out on her last car, it clogs up as the oil never really warms up.
We take her new car (turbo gasser) car on as many long runs as possible for its own health.

Ahhh, interesting thought. I commute only 12 miles round trip. I never see the water temp get above about 170-175 except for once per week when I go run errands and purposefully go the long way.
