Odometer Calibration

I'm speaking of the stock gauge, not a VDO addition. I did a search, but did not see a relevant previous post

I was wondering if there was a way to calibrate the stock odometer/speedometer? I noticed today that when I drove the same route I've used with other cars, what was consistently registering as 20km/12 miles was reading about 9.5 miles on the Odo. I think the speedometer may be slightly off too... for example, an indicated 50 kph reads only 46 kph on the road side radar I often pass.

I had thought at first I may not have replaced the correct tire size. When I needed new tires, I went "by the book", and purchased 265/75 R 16. The previous owner had installed 235/85 R 16s, so perhaps this is causing the problem? My tire size calculator says I'm now spinning the tires 638 times per mile, instead of the previous 636 times, so over 12 miles that's only a difference of 24 revolutions, so that can't be it. Of course, he did succeed in having a slightly tighter turning radius, but I like the look of these tires.

I know this isn't a huge deal (I'm not likely to get a speeding ticket with the stock 300Tdi), but oil changes, etc. are recorded in miles, and that will make a difference.

Thoughts? Thanks!

You can change the speedo drive gear on your xfer case. You need to see what color you currently have. More teeth will make your speedo show slower and less teeth faster.

Blue/20 teeth - Part number: FRC3310
Green/21 teeth - Part number: FRC3311
Yellow/22 teeth - Part number: FRC3312
Red/24 teeth - Part number: FRC3313
