I finally got around to solving the annoying issue of closing my rear swing door on my 94 ST
prior to the macgyver solution, every time i would close the door the the cross bar of the spare tire mount would bounce off and then rest again the 10mm hex bolt stopper... it annoyed me.
i have never seen any solutions to this annoyance. so i adjusted the depth of the stop bolt and added a rubber cap. now no more annoying bouncing off the hex nut before it comes to rest. closed just with the sound of the handle and the striker meeting.
does anyone else have another solution if they have had or have this issue?

There was a part for that. Have to go back 20 or so years, but I had sorted all the tire carrier issues, part numbers etc (there was supposed to be a cap where you fitted one on the old place.

all factory designed outer mounted spare tire carriers bounce, it is nature of its design. hard hinged at one end with a latch to a striker on a reinforced but still flimsy 16 gauge metal. it is supposed to emulate the action of a door but the tire is much heavier than a door.
older nissan pathfinder had its latch system rigidly mounted on the bumper, but the hinge was on the quarter panel, the issue resulted in damaged quarter panels.
for the range rover, rovertym offered a very firm solution but it comes with rear bumper, not sure if they offer something for defender. one uk vendor offered an upgraded replacement, it was popular a few yrs ago, cant remember it's name tho.
