New Rover

After being without wheels since I moved to Tokyo last summer, I finally picked up my new Rover. It’s a 96 so it’s easy to bring back to the US anytime. This one is RHD but the J-spec models had some nice features like AC as standard. I only got one key though, so I’m going to have to dig into my stash of spare blanks.

96 is EFI?

I remember back in the late 90s/early 2000s where people were “rebuilding” old minis with new mini “parts” and I thought they were pretty neat.

My first car was a 73 Mini Clubman.
Kinda hard to believe I origami’d myself into that daily and now that I drive an F150…. It was a go kart, powered by the 998cc Series A engine.

1996 is an EFI car, seems that all J-spec cars had single-point injection, which to me looks like little more than a miniature Sniper unit. Someone backdated this car a bit with the MkI grille, some classic scripts on the trunk, and the bright strips over the arches and down the sills. I need to find a specialist to give it a complete service and a good PPI (post-purchase inspection in this case…). I’d like to do some of the really stereotypical basic stuff to it like a Union Jack on the roof and bonnet stripes.

Congrats! Very nice. When we were in Tokyo you could find some amazing vehicles at a great price. As a British car the Union Jack is appropriate and as you have been there for awhile you realize no one is going to care.
