New Defenders starting to show up at dealers

It’s really intriguing to see how similar the 1995 Discovery is size wise to the new 90.
Pretty cool to see how close all the dimensions are except for width. New Defender is 9" wider (although they don't specify with either if that includes mirrors). For comparison my Ram 2500 is 80" without mirrors.

Fun part of the Edmunds system is ability to compare. Data is all manufacturers and even they can screw up. How about a 95 Defender v 95 Discovery, v 14 LR4 v 21 90

That's really cool. Crazy how much of a porker the LR4 is! 5655 lbs

Having been behind the wheel when this happened, those new Defender vids don't look particularly cringe-worthy. Very impressive how little damage there is, actually. Seems to be a very safe vehicle.
Oh shoot, hopefully you and any passengers were OK Barry. By "cringe worthy" I meant more of: you know the crash is coming, because it is a crash test, but still are mildly shocked when it actually happens

Took a road trip to Chicago last week, saw 2-3 on the highway out, including one towing a U-Haul trailer with a 5 Series BMW on it. Saw another 5-7 in the city. Up to this point I hadn't seen a single one in my small town. Surprised to see that many in one trip of a first model year vehicle.

I've seen quite a few in Pittsburgh's South Hills. Some are plain, some are tricked out with the roof rack and pollen sacks on the side, but nobody waves at me in my D1.

There are more Baby Broncos out than New Defenders.

I have to say, I saw one of the brown ones, mud flaps, black 18" wheels, wheel arches, ....made me want one.

Looking forward to seeing one at local dealer. None around here as yet. Like the concept though along with the pricing. Good bang for the buck.

Baby Broncos have pretty much taken over the space formerly occupied by the urban Xterra. A simple concept, not trying to be anything more than an Escape after puberty.

I don't like the baby Bronco. But from the reviews I've seen, there are a lot of good features packed into that thing. I don't really like the new Bronco either, just because it looks like a toy, but it looks to be a Jeep killer.

I'm going to drive a new D90 on Saturday morning. I'm curious, but mainly I want to know if I even like them. To me, the reliability, the seating/visibility, and the in-person factors will dictate if I look for a certified used in the next few years. It may be that I simply can't stand to drive one. I'll report back.

I drove the new two door 90 two weeks ago. If you go into it without comparing it to your 90, I think you will like it. Actually, I think anyone who drives it with an open mind will like it. It has presence, from an aesthetic standpoint as well as when you are driving it. I think all of the latest Rovers from the Disco through all of the Range Rover variants have a sort of presence -- they just feel rock solid when driving down the road. The 90 will surprise you when you get heave on the accelerator. All that being said, it id worlds apart from our Defenders... If you bring your actual Defender to the dealership, it will get way more attention than anything the Land Rover dealer will have -- unless they have another real Defender on the lot...

My Brother-in-law is waiting for his two door Bronco to show up. I can't wait to beat on it a little.

So I’m in Greenville SC again and taking the MIL’s Volvo dealer for service.

They are also a Porsche LR dealership. I’m not feeling any desire to even go and look at a Freelander XL aka Defender.

Yep, however, a 911 Turbo S could be an interesting look.

After having been behind bob Steele’s new 110 for 2 days on some fairly aggressive trails At wintergreen. Color me impressed..
there were 5-6 new defenders this year there, almost all were dented (Ralf’s was first time out and on the easier trails as it was literally finished the night before.)

the driving style has to be totally different and you NEED sliders.. at a minimum, at least… at a minimum…. Really.. a lot.
Oh and if it’s tight at all (defender with mirrors out normally)… your going to dent it.
fairly often..
..
It did great… not sure about all the others since they were on lower type trails..

It's going to be entertaining watching the off-road rivalry between Pretenders and Grenadiers in clubs that allow both.
